In April 2019, Hilaria revealed in a heartbreaking Instagram post that she was “most likely experiencing a miscarriage.”
“I have no shame or embarrassment with this experience. I want to be a part of the effort to normalize miscarriage and remove the stigma from it,” she explained at the time. “There is so much secrecy during the first trimester. This works for some, but I personally find it to be exhausting. I’m nauseous, tired, my body is changing. And I have to pretend that everything is just fine — and it truly isn’t. I don’t want to have to pretend anymore. I hope you understand.”
She later updated her followers, confirming that there was “no heartbeat” during her scan.
Hilaria and Alec leaned on each other following the loss and soon welcomed two more children back-to-back. Hilaria gave birth to their son Eduardo in September 2020 and their daughter Lucia arrived via surrogate five months later.
“The Baldwinitos craved so much to have a little sister,” Hilaria wrote via Instagram in March 2021 after the two babies were born. “Many of you may remember the loss of their sister at four months in the end of 2019. There isn’t a day that goes by where we don’t ache for our daughter. When I found out our baby had died, I told our children that their sister was going to come, just not at that time. Nothing will ever replace her, but two wonderful souls have come into our lives, and we are humbled to know them.”
One year later, the couple added another child to their brood. Baby No. 7, daughter Ilaria, was born in September 2022. (Alec is the father of eight, sharing his eldest daughter, Ireland Baldwin, 29, with ex-wife Kim Basinger.)
Earlier this year, Hilaria and Alec welcomed fans into their home and revealed what it’s really like raising seven children on their TLC series, The Baldwins.
“I think we didn’t think it through very much, which I look back now and I’m thinking ‘What were we thinking?’ But at the same time, I’m so glad that we didn’t because it is so raw and it is so true and it was a very vulnerable time,” Hilaria exclusively told Us on Tuesday, March 11. “It’s interesting to look back and even though it’s not that long ago, it really was a diary of how we were coping and moving forward.”
Despite the mayhem that comes with filming their lives, Hilaria hinted, “We’ll see,” when asked if more episodes are coming. Alec, meanwhile, exclusively told Us, “She’ll be back,” seemingly confirming a season 2.
The Baldwins airs on TLC Sundays at 10 p.m. ET.
