NEED TO KNOW
- The Boys is returning to Prime Video for season 5 on April 8
- The series’ fifth season will also be its last
- The show stars Antony Starr, Jack Quaid and Chase Crawford
The Boys is coming back for one more season.
Before season 4 was even released, Prime Video announced that its superhero-centric black comedy The Boys would be renewed for season 5, marking the return of the series’ morally complex characters.
During the premiere of the fourth season, show creator Eric Kripke announced that season 5 would be the last installment of The Boys. "Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax," he wrote on X with a nod to the evil corporation at the center of his series.
Kripke has drawn on real-world events from politics and pop culture to influence the series’ direction.
“The Boys and their spinoffs, none of them are really superhero shows,” Kripke told The Hollywood Reporter in 2024. “They have the suits and powers, but The Boys is a show about celebrity politics and late-stage capitalism."
From the satirical plot to the new and returning cast, here is everything to know about The Boys season 5 before the show returns on April 8.

Kripke has said that he wants to continue casting actors from his previous show, Supernatural. The showrunner told Variety in May 2024 that he hopes to bring in Jared Padalecki, who starred on Supernatural as the series lead, monster hunter Sam Winchester, for The Boys season 5.
“He’s been busy the last few years, so schedules haven’t worked out … But now, unfortunately, [Walker] got canceled — but the good thing is he’s free,” Kripke said. “And I feel like I have to complete my game of Supernatural Pokémon and I have my one big one — very big one — left to catch.”
Supernatural’s other series lead, Jensen Ackles, starred in The Boys as the antiquated American antihero Soldier Boy, along with other Supernatural actors Morgan, Jim Beaver and Rob Benedict.
This Supernatural reunion was confirmed in February 2025, when The Boys' Instagram account shared a video of Padalecki, Ackles and costar Misha Collins gearing up to work together again.
The Reel consists of selfie-style videos of each of the former Supernatural stars telling one another that they've "got work to do."
"Season 5 just got a bit more supernatural," read the caption.

The Boys season 5 will continue the vigilantes' quest to expose supposed heroes like Homelander for abusing their power. Considering that the plot of The Boys always parodies real-world sociopolitical and pop culture events, it is likely that the 2024 presidential election will play a large part in influencing the plot of season 5.
“The cast and crew are deeply grateful to Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios for the opportunity to tell this story for another season,” Kripke said when announcing the renewal news. “My only problem is that since this year promises to be free of any conflict or misinformation, we're not sure what to write about."
Kripke also confirmed that the events of The Boys’ coming-of-age spinoff series Gen V will impact the final season of The Boys. Some of the college-aged characters from Gen V will appear in The Boys and the virus that kills superheroes in Gen V could continue to play a role in The Boys universe.
“We try to keep the timeline super simple … So it’s all very modular,” Kripke told Variety in 2023. “It’s like there’s season 3 of The Boys and then after that Gen V takes place, and then after that The Boys season 4 takes place. And then after that Gen V season 2 takes place. It’s all more like cars on a train than it is a plate of spaghetti.”
Is there a trailer for The Boys season 5?
The full trailer for The Boys season 5 dropped in March 2026, a month before the season premiere.
The new footage reveals that Homelander is looking for "Vought’s first iteration of compound-V" that will make him immortal — but at the same time, Billy Butcher (Urban) wants to wipe all Supes off the map.
After the compound-V turns Billy into a Supe himself, he must join the effort to keep Homelander from taking over the world.

The Boys is set in New York, but was filmed in Toronto, where many series, including Suits, are shot to replicate New York’s cityscapes.
The show wrapped filming on its final season in July 2025, when Kripke shared an Instagram post to announce the news.
"This is the last time I'll ever be on this set. It'll be torn down soon. It's bittersweet, but my primary feeling is gratitude," Kripke wrote.
He continued, "We have the best cast, the best crew, the most fun story to write, and something that is impossible to predict: the right timing. You wait your whole career to have maybe two of those things, if you're lucky. We got all of them."
