Season 5 of The Chosen brought to life one of the most famous meals in history — the Last Supper — but does that mark the end?
The series, created by Dallas Jenkins, is a dramatic and realistic take on the life of Jesus, who actor Jonathan Roumie portrays. The Chosen first premiered in 2017, and in the years since, it has gained popularity with “over 200 million viewers,” according to the show’s website. The Chosen has also been a hit at the box office, releasing select seasons in theaters and grossing $140 million globally, per Deadline.
Season 5, which concluded on Prime Video on June 29, featured the week leading up to the Last Supper. Though the production on the latest episodes was more grand and ambitious, Jenkins told PEOPLE in June 2025 that the creative team’s approach wasn’t “any different” for the latest installment.
“We’re still focusing on the intimate, the personal, the organic, the authentic relationships,” he explained. “It’s just on a much bigger scale now because we’re in Jerusalem and a million people are all gathered, all [Jesus’] enemies, all his friends are all gathered along with the religious leaders and the Roman occupiers in one place in the course of one week.”
With a notable scene now part of the series, fans may wonder if they should anticipate more new episodes to continue the religious saga.

Will there be a season 6 of The Chosen?
Yes, The Chosen has been renewed for seasons 6 and 7.
According to the show’s website, the project is set to have seven seasons. Speaking to The Christian Post in March 2025, Jenkins explained how season 5 served “as a critical bridge between Jesus’ ministry and His ultimate sacrifice.”
“There’s some pain this season, but Jesus also kicks a little butt before season six,” he said. “[It’s] mixed in with some really beautiful intimacy.”
At the time, Jenkins also revealed that he was “working on the scripts” for season 6 and mentioned that the storyline would take an “awful” turn.
What will The Chosen season 6 be about?
Season 6 of The Chosen will focus on the crucifixion of Jesus.
In a June 2025 interview with Crosswalk Headlines, Jenkins warned that the crucifixion depicted in The Chosen would not be “family-friendly.”
“I don’t think the crucifixion was. I don’t think we’d be doing an authentic betrayal if we tried to clean it up,” he said.
When comparing it to 2004’s The Passion of the Christ, Jenkins said, “We have different tools in our toolbox than what [director] Mel Gibson had.”
“We’ve had five seasons of emotional connection, and so when you get to the crucifixion, I don’t need to do a lot of physicality and violence to get the point across,” he continued. “So we’ll still do some of that, but it won’t be quite as explicit as Mel’s.”
Speaking to CBN News in May 2025, the director added, “Season 6 is going to be the most devastating, obviously, season we’ve ever done.”
As for season 7, it will mean The Chosen‘s run will conclude as a show, but it will make way for a movie about Jesus’ resurrection, per Deadline.
When will The Chosen season 6 be released in theaters?
A premiere date for The Chosen season 6 has not been announced, but there is news about when the finale will debut.
Deadline reported that the conclusion will be released as a feature film in theaters on March 12, 2027.
After season 6 ends, the season 7 premiere, which shows Jesus’ resurrection, will also be released theatrically on March 31, 2028.
Most recently, in June 2025, Jenkins shared on Instagram that he was in the middle of filming “intense” scenes for season 6.
Will The Chosen season 6 be available for streaming?
Yes, season 6 of The Chosen will be available for streaming on Prime Video before the finale premieres in theaters in March 2027.
Previously, episodes from season 3 were screened in theaters, as were all of seasons 4 and 5.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, season 5, which was released in theaters in three parts in March and April 2025, grossed “$60 million globally.” The season was later released on Prime Video in June 2025.
