Bella Ramsey is getting candid about their neurodiversity.
The Last of Us star shared that an experience on set of the HBO drama led to a breakthrough diagnosis.
“I got diagnosed with autism when I was filming season one of The Last of Us,” Bella told British Vogue in an interview published March 19, describing the diagnosis as “freeing.”
“It enables me to walk through the world with more grace towards myself,” the 21-year-old continued, “about not being able to do the easy everyday tasks that everyone else seems to be able to do.”
Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental condition that affects how a person functions in society, according to the Mayo Clinic. While many on the spectrum struggle perceiving and socializing with others, Bella noted that their autism has actually proven to be an asset as an actor.
“I’ve always been watching and learning from people,” the Game of Thrones alum said. “Having to learn more manually how to socialize and interact with the people around me has helped me with acting.”
