- Jordan’s Thomas Crown Affair is currently filming, and is set to hit theaters in March 2027
The Thomas Crown Affair is back for another heist as Michael B. Jordan remakes the classic crime caper for a new generation.
On Aug. 6, 1999 — 26 years ago — The Thomas Crown Affair starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo was released in theaters. It wasn’t the first time audiences were introduced to Thomas Crown, though. The sleek and mature heist thriller was a remake of the 1968 original, featuring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway.
Both movies follow Thomas Crown, a wealthy but bored businessman, who entertains himself by committing crimes. In the 1968 version, he is the mastermind of a bank robbery, while in the 1999 film, he amuses himself by stealing a Monet painting from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Meanwhile, an insurance investigator (played by Dunaway in the original and Russo in the remake) is on Thomas Crown’s trail, and the two become entangled in a seductive cat-and-mouse game as they try to outsmart each other.
In September 2024, it was announced that Jordan would be directing and starring in a new Thomas Crown Affair. More recently, it was revealed that filming has started for the project.
