These Stars Are Absolutely Not Getting Married Again and Here’s Why

Jennifer Lopez famously loves love, so much so that she made a whole movie about it. She loves it so much that she’s walked down the aisle four times (with several more engagements mixed in there). But even if Cupid sends another arrow her way, you’re not likely to see her in a big white gown again.

“I think I’m done with that,” she told a crowd during her concert in Bilbao, Spain, per a fan’s video shared on X — supposedly in response to a fan’s sign entreating her to marry him. “I’ve tried that a few times.”

Kelly Clarkson

After a very difficult divorce from Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson is sticking to her no-marriage-necessary stance for the foreseeable future.

“I never wanted to get married the first time,” she told PEOPLE. “[Brandon] had children, a religious background, and it was important, I think, for him. But I’ve never been that person. … For my kids, I definitely would never even think about it until they’re out of my house.”

Jane Fonda

Reflecting on her three marriages that ended in divorce, Jane Fonda reflected that she wished she’d been “successful” at the endeavor, but didn’t have any plans to try again.

“I’ll tell you something that I haven’t achieved, which is a successful marriage. But the second part of your question is, ‘Do you want to?’ I don’t want to,” she told Page Six. “I live by myself. … I can watch whatever I want on TV. I don’t ever want to be married again. But it’s something I wish I’d been better at,”

Will the thrice-divorced “hopeless romantic” tie the knot again?

I will never get married again!” she told PEOPLE. “And I also believe people should not say the word ‘never,’ and I will never, with a capital N-E-V-E-R, never get married. It’s like I have two options: Cut it—this has not worked—or be Elizabeth Taylor. And I have too many more to go. I never want to be entwined with someone like that again ever. You break up, and you move on. You get divorced, and it’s just so different. I love that we are trying to hold on to an institution that [started] when the closest person to you for companionship was a three-day horse ride away and your life span was 30 years.”

After four divorces (one from the same man, Don Johnson, twice), Melanie Griffith says she’s open to another relationship, but doesn’t see the point in walking down the aisle.

“I really don’t think it’s relevant for anyone anymore. But especially if you’re 60 and you have four kids and you’re living the life you’ve always wanted,” she told InStyle in 2018. “Then why get married? It’s, like, I would love to fall in love and have a romance, a relationship, but I haven’t. I keep looking. I’ve had a couple of lovers but not a relationship.”

Also in 2018, Kris Jenner said she didn’t foresee herself as a Mrs. again.

“I don’t have the need to put on a long, white dress and walk down an aisle. I’ve done that. I’ve had the big wedding, I’ve had the babies and the kids — six of them, by the way. It’s not like we need to do that again,” she told Laura Wasser on her Divorce Sucks! podcast.

Jenner, who has been dating Corey Gamble since 2014, said that her past marriages (to Robert Kardashian and Caitlyn Jenner) were valuable experiences, but not ones she needed to replicate: “I think that I just feel really grateful and blessed for my past experiences and I’m looking forward to my future and I just don’t think that I want to go there.”

Terri Irwin’s husband Steve died in 2006, and in 2024, she told Us Weekly she hadn’t even wanted to date since then.

“I totally got my happily ever after,” she said. “I had the best marriage in the whole world for 14 years, and I’m very comfortable with the person I see in the mirror. So I’m okay to be on my own now. And I’m lonely for Steve, but I’m not a lonely person, so I’m very lucky.”

Supermodel Iman’s love story with David Bowie was star-crossed. After his death in 2016, she said she still feels connected to him. When their daughter Alexandra asked if she might remarry, Iman recalled to PEOPLE, “I said ‘No, I will not.’ I still feel married. Someone a few years ago referred to David as my late husband and I said ‘No, he’s not my late husband. He’s my husband. I definitely feel his presence, especially when I look out over the glorious sunsets at our home because David loves sunsets. So in that way he is ever present. Through my memory, my love lives.”

Celine Dion

Celine Dion lost “the love of [her] life” when husband René Angelil — the only man she had ever kissed — died in 2016. And, like Iman, she said that she still feels Angelil with her all the time.

“I’m still married to René. He’s still my husband,” she told PEOPLE in 2024, adding that she brings his photo to her doctor’s appointments for her Stiff Person Syndrome. “My kids are always asking, ‘Did you bring Papa’s pictures?’ And I’m like, ‘Yes, I have Papa’s pictures!’ He’s their dad, and he’s my husband, and he will always be.”

Liam Neeson

Liam Neeson’s wife Natasha Richardson died in 2009, and though he has dated in the years since, he told PEOPLE in 2024 that he doesn’t feel the need to pursue relationships or marriage anymore.

“No, in a word. I’m past all that,” he said when asked if he was still dating. He said he keeps busy with his children and acting career, and practices gratitude for everything he has.

Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft had a storied, decades-long love story, and after her death in 2005, Brooks said he had no interest in dating again.

“Once you are married to Anne Bancroft, others don’t seem to be appealing,” he told the New York Times. “It’s as simple as that.”
