Tommy Dorfman Details ‘Short-Lived’ Romance With ‘13 Reasons Why’ Costar Brandon Flynn in New Book

Tommy Dorfman recalled her “short-lived” romance with 13 Reasons Why costar Brandon Flynn in her new memoir, Maybe This Will Save Me.

The “second night” that the cast got together at Flynn’s place in San Francisco, where the Netflix show was filmed, Dorfman recalled going out to the balcony for a cigarette as other stars were “casually drinking” inside.

“Within a few puffs, I looked over to find that Brandon had joined me,” Dorfman, 33, wrote in the book, which was published on Tuesday, May 27. “His boyish tipsy charm was intoxicating, he carried confidence with ease, and his blue eyes sparkled, perhaps this is what people meant when they said star quality. Whatever it was, Brandon embodied it.”

Dorfman recalled feeling an “undeniable charge” between them.

“We held each other’s gaze for what felt like forever, and next thing I knew, we were up in his bedroom, ripping each other’s clothes off,” she wrote. “It was lusty and fun in the most beautiful, magical of ways.”

Flynn, now 31, was “open to something more serious,” but Dorfman “couldn’t offer more than casual fun.” Flynn ultimately called it off before being linked to fellow 13 Reasons Why costar Miles Heizer. (Flynn and Dorfman never publicly confirmed they were romantically involved. Similarly, Heizer’s rep denied that he and Flynn were a couple in a statement to Page Six in 2017.)

Dorfman appeared as Ryan Shaver on the series, which aired for four seasons from 2017 to 2020. Flynn played the role of Justin Foley while Heizer, now 31, starred as Alex Standall.

Dorfman admitted to wondering whether she “made a terrible mistake” in not pursuing her connection with Flynn after seeing him with Heizer.

“Seeing Miles and Brandon so in love sparked an unexpected jealousy in me, a yearning for that excitement and fire, perhaps even more serious feelings lingered for Brandon at that time, but I couldn’t do anything about it,” she wrote. “My bed was made, and I needed to focus on the task at hand: memorizing my lines.”

Dorfman eventually found love with Peter Zurkuhlen, whom she was married to from 2016 to 2021.

Following their divorce, Dorfman met Elise Williams on Hinge. In May 2024, Dorfman confirmed that she and Williams secretly married. By the end of the year, however, she hinted that the pair called it quits. Us Weekly confirmed earlier this month that Dorfman filed for divorce from Williams.
