Beer isn’t the only thing brewing in the House of Guinness trailer — there’s trouble on the horizon.

The extended look at Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight’s new series debuted online on Monday, Sept. 1, introducing viewers to the Guinness family.

The trailer kicks off with the funeral of Sir Benjamin Guinness, the real-life grandson of Arthur Guinness, the Irish brewer who invented Guinness beer and founded the Guinness Brewery in Ireland in 1759.

At the funeral, Benjamin is eulogized as having “brought peace and prosperity to the people of Dublin.”

Later, at the reading of Sir Benjamin’s will, it’s revealed that he passed the family’s beer business to two of his sons, Edward (Louis Partridge) and Arthur (Anthony Boyle), “jointly and equally.”

The only problem with him doing that? He has four children.

As for why his other two heirs aren’t getting their fair share of the pie, the lawyer reads from Benjamin’s will: “I feel it wise not to burden Benjamin (Fionn O’Shea) and Anne (Emily Fairn) with the temptations that come with fortune.”

At one point in the trailer, one of the Guinness children is told that their father’s death “has served to poke a stick in a hornet’s nest,” and a rebellious uprising begins to brew in the streets of Ireland.

Amid all the violence and romance, numerous characters point to a “weakness” or “weak link” among the Guinness family.

In a hopeful scene at the end of the trailer, Anne and her brothers stand in a circle with their heads bowed as she delivers a prayer in Latin and tells her brothers, “Love is our hope.”

The show’s logline promises a deep dive into an “epic story inspired by one of Europe’s most famous and enduring legacies” with the Guinness family.

Set in both Dublin and New York in the 19th century, it’s teased that each of the late Sir Benjamin’s children has their own “dark secrets to hide” while holding the family business’ “fate in their hands.”

Also in the ensemble cast are James Norton, Dervla Kirwan, Jack Gleeson, Niamh McCormack, Danielle Galligan, Ann Skelly, Seamus O’Hara, Michael McElhatton, David Wilmot, Michael Colgan, Jessica Reynolds, Hilda Fay and Elizabeth Daulau.
