  • The new ride, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, will arrive at the amusement park in 2026

Universal Studios Hollywood is getting ready for a whole new attraction to drift into the park.

The Southern California amusement park gave the first look at its latest roller coaster — and first-ever outdoor roller coaster — on Thursday, June 12. The new ride, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift — inspired by the long-running Fast & Furious franchise — will arrive at the amusement park in 2026!

Along with announcing the opening date, Universal Studios Hollywood added a video that included a rendering of the new ride. The video begins with a close-up look at the roller coaster’s vehicle, Dominic Toretto’s Dodge Charger. (It will also be on display before the ride’s opening, from Friday, June 13 to Sunday, August 10, 2025.)

The video includes various clips from the hit action series, with the cars revving their engines and speeding through the streets.

It also shows renderings that demonstrate how the ride vehicles will turn around to create a sensation of drifting cars, all while following the coaster’s path, and occasionally going upside down. “With a groundbreaking 360-degree rotation of the individual ride vehicles as they rocket along an elaborate track, this is a roller coaster like no other,” the park’s June 12 announcement read.

Per the video, the ride will seemingly take riders over the park’s signature escalators between the upper and lower lots, giving park goers a look at the riders and vice versa.

The new ride will be the fastest roller coaster in all the Universal parks, with a maximum speed of 72 mph, per Deadline. It will use 4,100 feet of track and begin across from the entrance to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

“Watching the progress of this incredible roller coaster come to life is truly spectacular,” Scott Strobl, Universal Studios Hollywood executive vice president and general manager, said, per the outlet.

“2026 is just around the corner,” he continued. “‘Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift’ will be a powerful game changer for Universal Studios Hollywood that will not only transform the topography of our destination but will infuse an entirely new level of adrenaline to our already dynamic theme park.”
