Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow are gracing the big screen together this Christmas.
Paltrow, 52, acts in a movie for the first time since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame in the trailer for A24’s upcoming movie Marty Supreme, in which she costars with Chalamet, 29. The movie follows Chalamet as lead character Marty Mauser, who is shown calling Paltrow’s character — an unnamed movie star — on the phone from a hotel at the beginning of the trailer and telling her that he believes he is “the chosen one.”
Marty Supreme‘s trailer, set to Alphaville’s 1984 hit “Forever Young,” showcases Chalamet’s character Marty as he sets out to become a worldwide sensation in table tennis.
The movie is directed by Josh Safdie (Uncut Gems); its cast also features Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara and Fran Drescher. “Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness,” reads A24’s official synopsis for the film.
A24 first announced that Chalamet would star in Marty Supreme in July 2024. Paltrow was added to the movie’s cast in August, and both actors made news when they were photographed filming scenes where the pair’s characters make out during a scene set in Central Park in October.
“I mean, we have a lot of sex in this movie,” Paltrow told Vanity Fair in an April cover story. “There’s a lot — a lot.”
In that piece, Paltrow told Vanity Fair that her character “is married to someone who is in the Ping-Pong mafia, as it were,” who meets and grows romantically entangled with Chalamet’s title character Marty. “She’s had a pretty tough life, and I think he breathes life back into her, but it’s kind of transactional for them both,” Paltrow said in that article; she also noted that she was not used to working with an intimacy coordinator after her break from the film industry.

In between Endgame and Marty Supreme, Paltrow did appear in the television series The Politician, which was co-created by her husband Brad Falchuk. She also made an uncredited vocal cameo as herself in the 2022 film She Said and an additional vocal-only appearance in a 2023 episode of American Horror Story.
The movie marks Chalamet’s first big screen part since 2024’s Dune: Part Two and A Complete Unknown. Chalamet won a Screen Actors Guild award and received his second career Oscar nomination for portraying a young Bob Dylan in the latter film.
Marty Supreme is in theaters Dec. 25.
