Weezer Bassist’s Wife Diagnosed with Cancer, Was Recovering from Hysterectomy When Shot by Police

Weezer bassist Scott Shriner’s wife, Jillian Lauren-Shriner, was undergoing treatment for cancer when she was shot by police in an altercation near the couple’s Los Angeles home.

On March 4, Lauren-Shriner, 51, revealed that she was diagnosed with cancer, sharing a photo smiling from a hospital bed on Instagram.

“I’d like to thank the Academy, my amazing hair and makeup team, and the lighting designers here at #glendaleadventisthospital,” she wrote. “As if they all hadn’t been through enough with the fires right next door! Yes, I have a little bit of the C word y’all. I know a lot of us do.”

“I’m here to thank the incredible oncology team here, who pulled me through a complicated operation without a hitch,” she continued. “I am always so grateful for every second of the compassionate, and excellent medical care I receive in my life. Thank you to all the remarkable health care workers, who take our lives in your hands. And let’s all breathe.”

Three weeks later, on March 22, Lauren-Shriner posted an update, sharing that she had two back-to-back surgeries, including a full hysterectomy.

“I feel called upon to mention it because I know only two people who had this procedure and neither is with us today. They weren’t here for me to call and ask what to expect,” she said. “I’m saying: I’m here. Ask me. I’m okay and healing today.”

“I thank you for your overwhelming support, and I love most of you. Kidding. I love you all. May we all be well tonight,” she added.

While home recovering from the hysterectomy, Lauren-Shriner was reportedly shot by police after opening fire on hit-and-run suspects in her neighborhood. On April 8, the writer was struck once in the shoulder by a police officer after refusing to surrender her weapon.

After re-entering her residence post shoot-out, Lauren-Shriner surrendered to police and was taken into custody. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics brought her to a nearby hospital for medical attention, and she was then absentee booked for attempted murder on $1 million bail, per a report from the LAPD.
