Kristi Noem shares three children with her husband, Bryon Noem.
The secretary of homeland security, whom President Donald Trump fired from the role on March 5 after two days of contentious congressional hearings, married her husband in 1992. They welcomed daughters Kassidy in 1994 and Kennedy in 1997, followed by son Booker in 2002. In recent years, Kassidy and Kennedy have become parents themselves.
Noem is open about her family life, frequently posting photos with her children and grandchildren on social media.
“I think people know me and we are such a transparent family. I don’t know of another elected official that puts their family life out there, with their kids,” Noem told ELYSIAN in 2022, adding that they’re “an open book.”
Here’s what to know about Kristi Noem’s three kids.

Noem and Bryon welcomed their first child, daughter Kassidy, on April 21, 1994.
After attending the University of Sioux Falls and receiving her bachelor's from South Dakota State University, Kassidy started her career as a real estate appraiser, per her LinkedIn.
However, Kassidy left the job in 2022 after Noem had allegedly inappropriately boosted her career and helped her get an appraiser's license with her pull as governor. Noem denied the claims.
Kassidy then followed in her mother’s footsteps in public service, becoming director of development at the faith-based nonprofits Call to Freedom and Collision Student Ministries, per her LinkedIn.
In January 2025, she made the switch back to real estate, joining a South Dakota firm as a broker associate.
Kassidy married Kyle Peters in June 2019, and the couple have since welcomed three children.

Noem and her husband welcomed their second daughter, Kennedy, on Feb. 24, 1997.
After graduating from South Dakota State University in 2018, Kennedy followed her mom into government. That year, she worked as a field director for Noem’s gubernatorial campaign, then served as Noem’s policy analyst when she was elected into office, per her LinkedIn.
Kennedy left the role in her mom’s office after a year and a half and went to business school at Belmont University, earning her MBA.
In 2021, Kennedy returned to her mom’s office as her director of finance. She left the position in 2022 and is now an account executive at TRI Industries, a South Dakota company that supports the manufacturing business. She also founded her own pilates studio, Studio Seven, in the fall of 2024.
In October 2022, Kennedy married Tanner Frick, and the two welcomed a daughter in February 2025.

Noem and her husband welcomed their son, Booker, on May 21, 2002.
On her blog as the governor of South Dakota, Noem shared glimpses of family life and details about Booker’s childhood. In one Father’s Day blog post in 2019, Noem shared that Booker suffered from a series of health problems as a child.
She wrote he had “so many breathing problems he needed multiple inhalers, medications, and constant trips to the hospital.”
In 2023, Noem opened up more about Booker’s health struggles. In another blog post, she wrote about an incident in which 4-year-old Booker was “turning blue” because he couldn’t breathe, adding that he was reliant on Albuterol for most of his childhood.
Booker, who is now 23, is the most private of Noem's children, with no public-facing social media.
