NEED TO KNOW
- Beloved The Boys spinoff Gen V is returning for season 2
- The first season took fans of the superhero universe into Godolkin University, where young supes are studying
- Gen V‘s sophomore season promises to tie into The Boys season 4
Prepare to go back to college with superheroes as The Boys spinoff Gen V returns for season 2.
Gen V is set in the same supe-filled universe as The Boys, but focuses on a group of college students at Godolkin University. When Marie (Jaz Sinclair) enrolled there, she wasn’t expecting the level of corruption she found, but with other “Guardians of Godolkin” like Emma (Lizze Broadway), Jordan (Derek Luh/London Thor) and Andre (Chance Perdomo), she was able to fight back.
There is a lot of crossover between The Boys and Gen V, with both shows leading into each other, but especially with the virus Marie and her friends discovered in Gen V that can kill supes, which factored into The Boys season 4. Sam (Asa Germann) and Cate (Maddie Phillips), who were originally with Marie and her friends, even switched sides, teaming up with Homelander (Antony Starr), and appearing in The Boys season 4.
“Cate and Sam, as is unfortunately typical in our world, are being rewarded for their horrific behavior in the Gen V finale … whereas the real heroes of that day are languishing in some undisclosed location somewhere that you’ll learn about when Gen V Season 2 drops,” series creator Eric Kripke told TV Insider in June 2024.
Ahead of season 2, Perdomo tragically died in March 2024. The second season of Gen V plans to pay tribute to the young actor.
From what Gen V season 2 is about to when it premieres, here’s everything to know about Gen V season 2.
What will Gen V season 2 be about?
Gen V’s sophomore season will follow up on many of the storylines from season 1 as well as continuing from where The Boys season 4 left off. After the massacre of non-superpowered humans at Godolkin University — caused by Cate and Sam going rogue and unleashing supes who’d been experimented on in “The Woods” — Marie, Jordan, Emma and Andre are framed before waking up in an unspecified location in hospital gowns.
Season 2 reveals the main characters were locked up in a torturous adult rehabilitation center, but have now been allowed to re-enroll at Godolkin University. The season will continue exploring character dynamics as Emma must reckon with her love for Sam and how he’s turned into a villain while Marie and Jordan’s budding romance will likely continue.
As The Boys season 4 ended, new U.S. President Calhoun swore allegiance to Homelander, declaring martial law, as Gen V shows some of the fallout, including humans having to wear identifying badges at Godolkin University. More events of The Boys season 4, including Butcher (Karl Urban) and the boys finding out about the virus and Homelander’s army of supes, will also influence Gen V as Kripke has previously stated the two shows will continue to be heavily connected.
“We try to keep the timeline super simple … So it’s all very modular,” Kripke told Variety in 2023. “It’s like there’s season 3 of The Boys and then after that Gen V takes place, and then after that The Boys season 4 takes place. And then after that Gen V season 2 takes place. It’s all more like cars on a train than it is a plate of spaghetti.”
Considering that The Boys season 4 ended with Cate and Sam capturing The Boys characters Frenchie (Tomer Capone) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara), the pair will likely appear in Gen V season 2 as Cate and Sam continue wreaking havoc. As their reward for following Homelander, they were deployed as part of his new army issued by the White House, but according to Kripke, Sam’s morals may complicate his decision while Cate moves full steam ahead.
“Cate and Sam … [are] turned into celebrities starring in ridiculous teen comedies who have a level of fame and notoriety now,” Kripke told TV Insider. “So I think Kate, who’s very anti-human and pro-Supe, drinks a lot of [that up], and I think Sam is probably a little more reluctant, but also Cate’s pretty good at touching him and making him not feel things, which I think keeps Sam happy and on mission.”
Which cast members are returning for Gen V season 2?
Gen V features a number of returning cast members. This includes Sinclair as the strong-willed, blood-powered heroine Marie as well as both Luh and Thor as the super-strong gender-swap-powered Jordan.
Phillips as the mind-controlling/mind-reading Cate and Germann as the volatile Sam will both return after last being seen as Homelander’s lackeys in The Boys season 4. One character who served as a breakout star was the size-changing Emma Meyer/Little Cricket, portrayed by Broadway, who spoke of her character’s change in season 2.
“This season, Emma’s going to be … different. The sparkle’s gone. She was once naive and loving, but now she’s got a harder edge. Grief has changed her, and honestly, the audience might not even recognize her at first,” Broadway told Stardust in February 2025. “You’ll see a side of her you haven’t before.”
One character who won’t be returning this season, even in flashbacks or as Sam’s mental manifestations, is Patrick Schwarzenegger as Golden Boy Luke. Schwarzenegger was busy working on The White Lotus during Gen V season 2 filming, but is open to a return.
“No, I wish, but I was, we were actually filming White Lotus at the same time that they were filming Gen V,” Schwarzenegger told Screen Rant in February 2025. “So it didn’t work out. But maybe season 3 or some other time.”
At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, it was revealed that Chace Crawford will reprise his cameo as The Deep from The Boys in Gen V season 2.
How will Gen V handle Chance Perdomo’s tragic death?
One of the biggest stories heading into season 2 of Gen V is how the show will handle the tragic death of 27-year-old star Chance Perdomo. The actor played Andre, a supe with powers to control metal and one of the key characters of Gen V season 1, but producers announced his role wouldn’t be recast.
“As we continue to navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo, everyone at Gen V is determined to find the best way to respect his memory,” a joint statement from the show’s producers read. “We won’t be recasting the role, because no one can replace Chance. Instead, we have been taking the time and space to re-craft our season 2 storylines as we begin production in May. We will honor Chance and his legacy this season.”
One specific way the show will be doing that is by bringing back Andre’s supe father Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas).
“I don’t want to give too much away, but Polarity will be in season 2,” Thomas told TVLine. “Season 2 is really going to be, in a lot of ways, a tribute to Chance Perdomo. Hopefully we do him justice.”
Who are the new cast members in Gen V season 2?
Midnight Mass and Batman: Caped Crusader star Hamish Linklater will play the Godolkin University’s new Dean Cipher after the death of Dean Shetty (Shelley Conn). According to Entertainment Weekly, Cipher is described as “the charismatic and charming newly-appointed Dean of Godolkin University. Trained as a scientist, he’s politically brilliant, and has the trust and admiration of officials at the highest level.”
Additionally, according to Deadline, Keeya King, Stephen Kalyn, Julia Knope, Stacey McGunnigle, Tait Fletcher, Wyatt Dorion and Georgie Murphy have also joined the Gen V cast in recurring roles.
When is Gen V season 2 coming out?

In May 2025, a teaser trailer for Gen V was dropped, announcing that season 2 will premiere on Sept. 17.
