Where Is the Cast of Scary Movie Now? A Look at the Stars’ Lives 25 Years After the Movie Premiered

NEED TO KNOW

  • Scary Movie premiered in theaters on July 7, 2000
  • Marlon Wayans — who co-wrote and starred in the film alongside his brother Shawn Wayans — announced in 2024 that they were collaborating for the sixth movie in the franchise
  • Though the cast hasn’t been announced, Anna Faris did say she would reprise her role if her costar, Regina Hall, was also involved

Scary Movie was anything but scary.

The 2000 film parodied popular horror flicks of the era — including Scream, The Exorcist and I Know What You Did Last Summer — and went on to spawn four sequels.

In October 2024, Marlon Wayans announced that he and his brother Shawn Wayans would return for a sixth installment. They’ll also reunite with their brother Keenen Wayans, who directed the first two films.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again,” the Wayans brothers told Deadline in October 2024. “This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again.”

Though the cast for the sixth film hasn’t been announced, Scary Movie star Anna Faris told PEOPLE in July 2024 that she would reprise her role under two conditions: money and Regina Hall, who played her character’s best friend in the movie.

“I would love to work with Regina again,” the actress said. “I just love her so much. We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer. And money. But mostly all Regina!”

Here’s everything to know about where the original Scary Movie cast is today.

Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell

Faris made her big film debut in Scary Movie, landing the role of Cindy Campbell in what was also her first-ever Hollywood audition, she told IndieLondon.

The actress reprised the character in the next three installments of the horror-comedy franchise before moving on to star in fan-favorite comedies like The House Bunny and What’s Your Number?.

From 2013 to 2020, Faris led the hit CBS sitcom Mom alongside Allison Janney.

Off-screen, she married cinematographer Michael Barrett in 2021 and shares one son, Jack, with her ex-husband, Chris Pratt.

Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks

Hall played Cindy’s best friend, Brenda Meeks, in Scary Movie and returned for three of the film’s sequels. Like her costar Faris, Hall’s breakout role in the horror spoof helped launch her Hollywood career.

She went on to earn acclaim in The Best Man franchise and starred in films like Law Abiding Citizen, The Hate U Give and Support the Girls — the latter of which earned her Best Actress honors from the New York Film Critics Circle in 2018.

Hall has also made her mark on the small screen in TV projects, such as Showtime’s dark comedy Black Monday and Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers.

Marlon Wayans as Shorty Meeks

Wayans played Brenda’s laid-back brother, Shorty Meeks, in Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2 — films he also co-wrote and produced with his brother, Shawn.

The actor went on to star in hit comedies like White Chicks and led the NBC sitcom Marlon from 2017 to 2018. Though the Wayans brothers were not involved in the other three sequels, they announced in October 2024 that they were returning to the franchise for Scary Movie 6.

He shares two children, Kai and Shawn, with his ex-girlfriend Angela Zackery.

Shawn Wayans as Ray Wilkins

Wayans starred as Brenda’s boyfriend, Ray Wilkins, in Scary Movie, which he co-wrote and produced alongside his brother.

The duo reunited for other cult comedies like White Chicks and Little Man, and Shawn is set to reprise his Scary Movie role in the sixth installment.

He is a father to three children: Illia, Laila and Marlon.

Jon Abrahams as Bobby Prinze

Jon Abrahams played Cindy’s on-again, off-again boyfriend, Bobby Prinze, in the original Scary Movie. He didn’t return for the sequels but went on to appear in films like My Boss’s Daughter, House of Wax and All at Once.

On TV, he had recurring roles in Boston Public and Masters of the House.

Shannon Elizabeth as Buffy Gilmore

Shannon Elizabeth’s turn as cheerleader Buffy Gilmore in Scary Movie was one of several hit comedies she starred in during the early 2000s. Though she only appeared in the first film, she’s best known for reprising her role as Nadia in the American Pie franchise.

Her film credits also include Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Love Actually and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. On TV, she had recurring roles on That ’70s Show and Cuts.

Off-screen, Elizabeth is married to brand strategist Simon Borchert. Together, they run a conservation foundation focused on protecting rhinos and other wildlife.
