Hannah Montana, the iconic Disney Channel sitcom, premiered 20 years ago, and star Miley Cyrus is celebrating with the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special. The "Hannahversary" streaming event features guests and musical performances.

While the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special was announced in February 2026, Cyrus began teasing the project a year prior, before planning had even officially begun.

“I learned this terrible habit — but I actually think it was good advice — from Dolly,” she told Variety in March 2026, referring to her godmother Dolly Parton. "She told me that if you want something to happen, promote it before it exists. Then no one can say no. So I just started promoting a Hannah Montana 20th-anniversary special that literally did not exist."

When does the Hannah Montana special come out?

The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special premieres March 24 — exactly 20 years to the day after the original series was released on March 24, 2006.

The new project was a labor of love for Cyrus, who had fans in mind while planning her return to the world of Hannah Montana.

“I think even Disney sometimes forgets the connection between me and Hannah,” she told Variety. “It’s not just a TV show. I see daily how important Hannah is to people. When I travel, people bring me ‘Hannah’ merch. They ask, ‘Are you ever going to do another season?’ ”

The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special comes out at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT on March 24.

The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special is an hour-long.

According to Disney, the event features a sit-down interview with Cyrus and Call Her Daddy host/Hannah Montana superfan Alex Cooper.

It also includes never-before-seen footage from filming the series and recreations of the sitcom's most iconic sets. In addition, viewers will be treated to performances of some classic Hannah Montana hits and a new song, according to Good Morning America.

"Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection,” Cyrus said in a statement when the special was announced.

She continued, "The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years."
