Whitney Leavitt and her husband Conner have their own opinions on the internet’s speculation that they’re in a lavender marriage.
Since season 1 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives dropped, Whitney and Conner have been the butt of plenty of jokes speculating that at least one of them may be hiding their sexuality. The pair have joked about it online, even posting a TikTok with “proof” they’re not in a lavender marriage.
Their marriage is still a topic of discussion as season 2 of Mormon Wives inches closer — but Whitney tells PEOPLE she’s not worried about what others think.
“I have family, I have Conner, and we know what’s real,” Whitney shares in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE. “And so, I can go to sleep at night knowing that I’m with the love of my life, my best friend, and he knows me and I know him, and what else really matters? These people don’t really know who we are.”
Though viewers of the show have pushed their theories online, Whitney maintains that these opinions come from their idea of her being a “character” on TV.
“But wait a sec, I’m like the life of the party. I’m so fun. Let’s go to the club. That’s just who I am, and I hate that you didn’t get to see that, but that’s who I am,” she continues. “But I am confident and grounded in knowing that I have people in my corner that know that.”
Whitney may not be worried about viewers’ unsolicited thoughts on her marriage, but she admits it’s harder to ignore when it’s other MomTok members feeding into the speculation.
“I feel like the only time that it really hurt is when the other women in the group would make videos scrutinizing it,” Whitney says. “I thought it was very inappropriate and incredibly unprofessional, and it was just for them to get views and clout, and great, you got that, your five minutes of fame on that.”
“But again, I think if you were just to follow Conner and I around all day, we know what’s true. We’re like the life of the party,” she continues. “We’re so fun. So, it just doesn’t bother us.”
The pair welcomed their third child, Billy Gene Leavitt, in late October and also share son Liam, 2, and daughter Sedona, 4.
“He’s adorable. No flaws. He is muah — perfect in every way,” Whitney says of her youngest. “He completes the family, for sure, because I’m out. I’m tapped out, girl. Three’s the new six in Utah.”
“I feel like everyone’s having three and then tapping out,” she continues, noting that while her parents’ generation was inclined to raise families of five or six, she’s less inclined to “in this economy.”
“I feel like more women are working and pursuing their careers. That would be really hard to balance with also having your husband pursue a career, I think, having more than three,” Whitney says. “But it’s been crazy, but also a lot of fun.”
Season 2 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives premieres on Hulu on May 15.
