Former United States Attorney General Pam Bondi has been in a long-term relationship with John Wakefield since about 2017.
That year, Bondi went public with Wakefield, posting on social media about a concert they attended together. In the years since, Wakefield, who is a private equity firm founder, has supported Bondi at high-profile occasions, most notably standing beside her as she was sworn in as U.S. attorney general in February 2025.
Throughout their relationship, Wakefield has maintained his privacy, though he appears to be a father of three children, according to his Instagram bio.
In February 2026, Bondi was in the spotlight again as she testified in a congressional hearing involving the Jeffrey Epstein files. The public backlash over the Department of Justice's handling of the files was reportedly a factor in Bondi being fired from her role as attorney general in April 2026.

He’s a founder at a private equity firm

Wakefield is an executive vice president at Ellison Development, per his LinkedIn.
He one of the founding principals at Varner Wakefield Equity Partners in 2015, a private equity firm focused on real-estate investments across the country. Wakefield departed from the company in 2025.
He previously worked as a banker for several years and was later the vice president of corporate business development and strategy at Lykes Bros Inc., according to his LinkedIn.
Wakefield obtained a bachelor's degree in English from the College of Charleston in 1994, and an international business degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in 1998.
He and Bondi have dated since at least 2017

While it’s unclear when Bondi and Wakefield began seeing each other, the former banker first made an appearance on her Instagram in 2017.
At the time, Bondi posted a selfie featuring Wakefield and some of their friends at a Bruno Mars concert.
“Great night at Bruno Mars w Chillura’s and friends,” the former attorney general captioned the October 2017 post.
He attended Bondi’s swearing-in ceremony

Wakefield showed his support for Bondi during her attorney general swearing-in ceremony in February 2025.
At the time, the firm founder stood beside Bondi and held the Bible she was swearing her oath on as Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas guided the ceremony.
President Donald Trump later mentioned Wakefield during a brief address after Bondi’s swearing-in.
“I just want to introduce her very, very handsome husband. I hate being around him. He looks too good,” Trump said. “He’s been a tremendous factor with Pam and just a beautiful relationship.”
Although Trump referred to Wakefield as Bondi's husband, neither member of the couple have confirmed whether they are married.
He has appeared on Bondi's social media

Before assuming her role as attorney general at the White House, Bondi regularly posted snippets of her and Wakefield’s relationship on Instagram.
In 2018, the politician posted a carousel of photos of the two celebrating Christmas at the White House. The pair could be seen posing next to Trump in the Oval Office in one photo.
She also celebrated Wakefield’s birthday in a 2017 Instagram post, sharing a selfie of the two and a photo of Wakefield with who appear to be his three children by the pool.
One of Bondi’s more recent photos of the two on Instagram sees them posing at a scenic spot in Ireland in 2022.
