- King Charles’ niece’s birthday will be especially meaningful for a sweet reason
- Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi recently treated their kids to a fun family outing in London
Princess Beatrice is counting down to her 37th birthday on Aug. 8 — and this year’s celebration carries extra meaning.
It’s her first since welcoming daughter Athena Elizabeth Rose and becoming a family of five — and after a difficult start to the year, the milestone holds special significance.
Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s eldest daughter and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, quietly welcomed Athena in January, weeks before her expected due date. The baby girl’s premature arrival was earlier than the “early spring” due date Buckingham Palace had originally announced — and while Beatrice later shared that the birth had been anticipated, she also experienced “months of sheer worry.”
“I was very fortunate to be monitored closely by a medical team and I’m extremely aware of how lucky I am,” Princess Beatrice wrote in an essay for British Vogue in March, noting that her daughter Athena “arrived healthy, a few weeks before her due date.”
She said her baby daughter was “so tiny” at the time, with feet like the paws of a bunny, and that “it took more than a few weeks for the tears of relief to dry and for life with our healthy baby to feel real.”
The baby girl joins the couple’s 3-year-old daughter Sienna, 3, and Beatric’s stepson Christopher Woolf, 9, from Edo’s previous relationship.
Beatrice is also the proud new patron of Borne, a medical research charity endeavoring to end premature birth.
Baby Athena made Princess Beatrice and property developer Edo, 41, a family of five. The couple recently brought all three of their children to the homecoming parade celebrating England’s women’s soccer team winning the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 in London on July 29.
King Charles’ niece became the first royal of her generation to become a stepparent when she married Edo in 2020 and a friend told PEOPLE that Beatrice was a hands-on stepmom to Christopher Woolf, who is affectionately nicknamed Wolfie, from the start.
“He is very much part of their life,” Princess Beatrice’s friend told PEOPLE at the time. “Beatrice has embraced the child as part of her life from the outset.”
Princess Beatrice is not a full-time working royal like her cousin Prince William, and she and Edo juggle full-time jobs with parenthood to their children.

The couple celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary on July 17, and the Banda Property founder marked the milestone with a loving tribute on Instagram.
“Happy 5th Anniversary to my incredible partner, the most beautiful and amazing wife. I cherish every moment we’ve spent together and am deeply grateful for our journey,” Edo wrote below an undated photo of him and Beatrice standing on a beach in Scotland, dressed in casual clothes.
“Here’s to countless more years filled with laughter and tons of love!”
