Wife Doesn’t Want Her Husband to Leave Her Alone with Kids for a 3-Day Bachelor Party. A Lot of Women Think He Should Go

  • A woman shared that her husband is the best man in a wedding and wants to leave her alone with their kids, ages “5, 3 and under 1,” for a three-day bachelor party
  • She said she doesn’t want him to go even though he has offered to watch their children if she ever wants to take a trip
  • The woman shared her story on the U.K.-based community site Mumsnet, and other women said she is being unreasonable

A woman is “looking for some opinions” after her husband told her he plans to leave her alone with their kids for three days to attend a bachelor party.

The woman recently detailed her story on the “Am I Being Unreasonable?” forum on the U.K.-based community site Mumsnet. In her post, the woman shared that she and her husband have three children, “5, 3 and under 1.”

She added that her husband — who is the best man — originally thought he would be away for a day or “possible overnight” for his friend’s bachelor party, but the groom now said he wants to do a “long weekend.”

“[My husband] thinks IABU [I am being unreasonable] to say a long weekend is too long with 3 young kids,” the woman wrote. She also said that while her husband told her that he would watch the kids if she “ever wanted to go away,” she doesn’t think he “really means it.”

The original poster (OP) noted that her husband has gone away with friends every year since their children were born, adding that he even took a trip “when I was heavily pregnant last year” and “hospitalized” — despite her asking him not to go.

The OP concluded her post by asking others, “AIBU [am I being unreasonable]?”

The woman’s fellow community members were quick to share their opinions, and the vast majority of people told her they think she should let her husband go — and to be sure to take him up on his offer to watch the kids at a later date.

“Of course he should go, as long as you get the same,” said one person. “You can’t really complain if you’ve never organized/booked something yourself. If he’s happy to go away and leave you parenting three, and he says he will reciprocate, you need to hold him to that.”

“I would make it work […] and then absolutely take him up on his offer of you going away!” echoed someone else.

Another person said: “I can’t see an issue with him going away once a year, and it’s only a long weekend, it’s not like he’s going away for 2 weeks. He’s also offering for you to go away, you absolutely should do!!”
