Talk about a sweet coincidence: A woman in Ohio recently won $300,000 from a lottery ticket purchased for her by her husband after her favorite ticket wasn’t available, officials said.
In another twist, the unidentified couple's winning ticket was bought using $150 that the husband had won on scratch-off tickets he received for his birthday, according to a news release from the Ohio Lottery.
The husband purchased the ticket at Newton Falls Convenient Mart on South Milton Boulevard in Newton Falls.
Initially, the husband intended to buy his wife her favorite ticket, a $500,000 Cashword game worth $10, lottery officials said.
But when he learned the store was sold out, he opted to buy four $5 Special Edition Cashword Scratch-Offs instead.
Later that night, the wife used her tickets while out with a group of friends. That’s when she learned she'd won the six-figure prize.
Quickly, she downloaded the Ohio Lottery app to confirm her luck, according to lottery officials. When she called her husband, she said in the news release, “Of course he didn’t answer.”
So she was forced to wait until he returned home to share the exciting news.
Her husband at first thought she had only won $50 and was stunned to learn it was so much more.
His wife told lottery officials that she had long dreamed of winning a big prize. She'll receive $219,750 after taxes, officials said.
