Leanne fans have more to look forward to!

The Netflix comedy, which premiered in July 2025, has been officially renewed for a second season. The show’s star, Leanne Morgan, announced the exciting news in a statement on Sept. 8.

“We’re coming back for a second season!” she said, per The Hollywood Reporter. “I am so grateful to all the writers, producers, Netflix, [Warner Bros. TV], our amazing cast and especially for all the fans of the show. Y’all did this for us and we can’t wait to be back.”

The series stars Morgan as Leanne Murphy, a feisty grandmother who has to start a new life after her husband of 33 years, Bill Murphy (Ryan Stiles), tells her that he’s ending their marriage to be with a younger woman. While Leanne learns how to navigate her life without Bill, she receives support from her family — including her sister, Carol (Kristen Johnston), her mom Margaret (Celia Weston) and her dad John (Blake Clark).

The series also stars Graham Rogers and Hannah Pilkes as Leanne’s on-screen children and Tim Daly as her love interest.

Here’s everything to know about Leanne season 2.

What will Leanne season 2 be about?

An official synopsis for season 2 of Leanne has not been released, but it will likely continue following Leanne’s journey navigating her new life after her husband left her.

“Leanne’s (Morgan) world is turned upside down when her husband of 33 years (Stiles) unexpectedly leaves her for another woman,” the season 1 synopsis reads. “Supported by her family, including her ride-or-die sister Carol (Johnston), Leanne learns to embrace the chaos and finds strength, laughter and hope in the most unexpected places. This heartfelt comedy proves that it’s never too late to rewrite your story.”

The first season ended with Leanne reflecting on her recent ups and downs after welcoming another grandchild to her family via her son, Tyler, and his wife, Nora (Annie Gonzalez).

“Turns out your grandmom was a lot stronger than she ever knew,” Leanne tells the newborn in the finale. “Life can take twists and turns, but sometimes it’s the only way to find out who you are really are.”

As for her love life, Leanne learns to move past her anger with her ex-husband Bill and has a heart-to-heart moment with him after they run into each other at the hospital. In addition to moving past their separation, Leanne also decides to give love another chance by getting into a relationship with the charming Andrew.

Which cast members are returning for season 2 of Leanne?

The cast for Leanne season 2 has not officially been announced, but Morgan shared her excitement in an Instagram video posted Sept. 8.

“Okay y’all, I have some exciting news,” she exclaimed in the post. “We have found out that we are getting season 2 of Leanne on Netflix, and I am so excited and want to thank every one of you each and every one of y’all for watching it over and over and sharing it and telling people about it! Y’all did this for me, so thank y’all!”

Meanwhile, Rogers also shared his excitement by reposting the video of Morgan and captioning the post, “SEASON 2!!!”

Pilkes joined in on the fun by sharing a screenshot of the renewal announcement and writing, “Here we go !!!!!! 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹😭❤️❤️❤️.”

At the time of the renewal, Johnston did not share anything on social media, but she previously told TV Insider that the show was “definitely set up to hopefully continue.”

“It’s just the first season, it’s really setting everything up,” the actress said. “If we get to go another season, I think there will be some really big payoffs that we’ve heard rumors about, but we’ll see.”

Executive producer Nick Bakay further teased to the outlet that he has “some things up [his] sleeve” that didn’t make the cut for the first season.

“The course of the first season tees up a lot,” he shared. “But you have to get back in the room and start rolling up your sleeves and kind of start from scratch.”

When will season 2 of Leanne premiere?

Netflix has not released an official premiere date or trailer for season 2 of Leanne. The first season hit screens on July 31, 2025, after the show was initially announced in April 2024. By May of that year, the official cast had been announced, but the streamer didn’t reveal when they began filming the 16-episode series.

“Much thanks and gratitude to Netflix for this amazing opportunity,” co-creator Chuck Lorre said in a statement with the renewal news. “Congrats to Leanne and the entire cast and crew. This has been an incredible journey that began with a visit to Knoxville, Tennessee. Leanne Morgan is the whole package. A comedic genius, a warm, loving human being, and an absolute joy to work with.”
