‘With Love, Meghan’ Director Shares Insight on Meghan Markle’s Cooking Skills: ‘She’s Not a Chef’

With Love, Meghan director Michael Steed opened up about what it was like to work with Meghan Markle on the new Netflix series.

“Her cooking is pretty spot-on. She’s not a chef, and it’s definitely not meant to make it seem like she is, but there’s just a love of cooking that is palpable,” Steed said in an interview with People, published on Saturday, March 8.

“For me, imperfection is a wonderful thing. It was fun watching her trying to get used to the kitchen, because it’s not her place, so we didn’t hide that fact, and she’s kind of walking and looking for things,” Steed continued, referencing the Montecito house the series was filmed in.

“I really wanted to embrace and celebrate all of the mistakes and mess and all that good stuff,” he added.

In the series, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, is seen cooking, crafting, and hosting her celebrity friends, including Mindy Kaling and Abigail Spencer, as she shares her best lifestyle tips and tricks.

Amid a mixed public reaction to the series, Meghan announced via Instagram on Friday, March 7, that it had been renewed for a second season.

As for Steed, he will return as director of the second season, which has already completed filming, Us Weekly previously reported.

In his interview with People, Steed said Meghan was “friendly” while filming and managed to create a “comfortable environment” on set.

Meanwhile, an unnamed member of the crew told the outlet that Meghan was “warm,” “approachable,” and “genuine.”
