A woman expecting her second child was in for a surprise when she decided to announce her latest pregnancy at a family gathering, but chose not to after her sister announced her own pregnancy first.

The 25-year-old woman, who is already mom to a 5-year-old, shared her side of the story on Reddit.

“Three weeks ago we had a family gathering, I was going to announce that I’m pregnant then, but I didn’t because I met up with my sister a few days prior and she told me about [her] baby and that she was planning to tell everyone in that gathering,” the poster explains.

The woman notes that she “totally supported” her 31-year-old sister, who “had some issues getting pregnant.”

“I understood that it was difficult for her since it’s something that she’s been really wanting, she waited a bit longer than I did with my first baby because she was scared of having a miscarriage,” the poster explains.

“I totally supported her and I didn’t tell her about my own pregnancy because I didn’t want her to think I was stealing her spotlight (which ended up happening anyway).”

During the family gathering, the woman remained silent about her big news as her older sister announced her pregnancy.

“Fast forward, last week I was talking to our brother’s girlfriend, she noticed my pregnancy and I confirmed it,” she explains.

The girlfriend then informed the poster that she was hosting a garden party at her new house and told her that she “could announce the pregnancy to our family at their party.”

While the poster was originally planning to just “send a text in the family’s group chat to share the news,” she agreed to do it in person at the housewarming.

“The day of the party came, my brother and his girlfriend cooked for us, it was nice. Then I told everyone that I am pregnant again,” she shares. “Everyone of course congratulated me and started asking me the usual questions, how far along I was, how I was feeling, etc. My sister however got upset.”

When she asked her sister what was wrong, she responded by calling her an “egocentric bitch” and said “that she knew I would do something like this to ‘steal her spotlight.’ ”

“I asked her how I could do it on purpose if I didn’t even know she was pregnant until very recently, she told me that either way I knew she was trying, but I don’t think I should have to put my life in pause just for her?” she writes.

The situation devolved into name-calling, with the sister insisting she “didn’t have to make such a big deal to announce my pregnancy since it’s my second baby, not my first.”

She also accused the woman of being “jealous of the attention” she got from her original announcement.

Now, the woman is asking Reddit if she is in fact in the wrong, and “should’ve kept the announcement low-key.”
