Woman Asks Boyfriend’s Mom to Mend Her Ripped Jeans. She Returns Them with a Little Something Extra (Exclusive)

A mom’s gesture to her son’s girlfriend has gone viral on TikTok for its sweet simplicity.

Chloe Legault took to TikTok the moment her boyfriend Louis’ mom, Isabelle, took a simple task and made it into a heartfelt moment. The clip recounts how Isabelle mended Chloe’s jeans using a patch from Louis’ childhood pants.

“I asked her to fix my jeans — there was a hole in them,” Chloe exclusively tells PEOPLE, noting Isabelle said she would take on the task. “When she had given them back, she said, ‘Hey, this patch is from Louis’ jeans as a kid.’ I thought it was cute that she made it clear from the beginning that it was from his childhood.”

For Chloe, this gesture was more than just a repair. It represents a special connection to her boyfriend’s past; one she can now carry with her in her day-to-day life. “I’m such a sentimental person, so I found it so special to have a tangible connection to my boyfriend’s past stitched onto my pair of jeans,” Chloe shares.

“We carry the people we love in so many different ways in our life,” Chloe continues, adding, “So having that physical reminder is just something that we could all appreciate.”

Chloe and Louis’ love story began on Tinder more than a year ago, and has grown with time. “He’s my best friend, so I love having little reminders of him,” she shares.

The sentiment, which went viral on TikTok, resonated with many users who considered a deeper meaning in Isabelle’s actions. “One way that I didn’t see at first was people mentioning that Isabelle was saying that she knew I’m the one for him because she used such a precious material on my jeans,” Chloe explains.

Chloe, who has a love for poetic meaning and symbolism, adds her own interpretation to the choice in patch. “At the heart of it, it’s an expression of love and connection between not only me and my boyfriend, but also me and my boyfriend’s mom,” she shares.

“At the end of the day, what’s most important is to have that physical reminder and moral support for my boyfriend … just from that little patch as I go about my day-to-day,” Chloe shares, though she admits she’s afraid to wear the jeans too often now, as she doesn’t want to damage them.

“Even the smallest gestures can really have the deepest impact and meaning,” Chloe notes. “Our expression of love doesn’t have to be so grand. It could be as small as a patch on jeans.”
