One mom assumed full momma-bear mode to protect her daughter’s Christmas gift.
The mom tells Reddit users in a post — under the username erika_padaukiski — that following last year’s Christmas unboxing she blocked her sister after she called her a “horrible person.”
The mom says she invited her sister and her kids over to spend Christmas and open presents together, since her sister’s husband was out of town. On Christmas morning, the daughter was thrilled after opening the new dolls she was gifted.
“She’s not an age regressor, she just genuinely enjoys playing with them,” the mom writes, explaining her 11-year-old daughter’s obsession with Cry Baby and Baby Alive dolls.
“My daughter was really excited about the dolls she received,” the mom tells Reddit users. “But her younger cousins weren’t happy about it and tried to take them from her.”
Instead of the sister telling her children to stop pestering their cousin, “she insisted her niece was, ’too old’ for dolls and that her kids deserved them more,” the mom writes of the argument with her sister.
Defending her daughter, the mom says she hid the dolls away in her daughter’s room, “to keep them safe” from the cousins.
However, that night the daughter’s cousins snuck into her room while everyone was sleeping and stole her new dolls. When the daughter awoke the next morning without her dolls, she noticed right away that her cousins had taken them, the mom writes. “She was upset,” the mom continued.
“I called my sister, and she again said my daughter was “too old” for them and that her kids had a better right to the dolls,” the mom told Reddit users.
The mom told her daughter to stay at home while she went to her sister’s house to confront her.
“When I arrived, I demanded that she tell me where the dolls were, or I would report it as theft,” the mom writes. “After some back-and-forth, I got the dolls back, went home, and gave them to my daughter. My sister was calling me a horrible person, and I ended up blocking her.”

In the comments, Reddit users rallied around the mother’s actions. One user wrote, “The sister encouraged it. So, it is basically an adult stealing from a child. The family is setting the bar real low in this case.”
“Also what kind of Grinch thinks 11 is too old for dolls???” wrote another user.
