There’s a bad haircut, and then there’s a bad haircut.
One woman took to Reddit to share her horror story of getting out of the hairstylist’s chair because she didn’t want to see her hair “butchered.”
In the “Am I the A——” subreddit, she wondered if she was “completely out of line” after her visit. The woman recalled walking out without paying for her half-done haircut after the stylist “scoffed” at her.
She wrote that she went to get a dry haircut after straightening her curly hair, since she hasn’t had much luck with getting her curly hair cut in the past.
“I told the hairstylist exactly what I wanted,” the Redditor wrote. “When she went to cut the layers she place the scissors about chin length, about 4 or 5 inches above where I asked her to start so I just pulled my head back and my hair slipped through her fingers. She looked at me startled. I apologized because I didn’t mean to be rude but it was really more of a relfex at that point.”

The woman wrote that she felt a bit panicked because of her history of bad haircuts, and she admitted that it may have been a bit of a “drastic” reaction.
However, what happened next with the hairstylist made her uncomfortable to the point that she couldn’t even continue on with the appointment. The Redditor wrote that the hairstylist began harping on saying “she knows what looks good” while also reminding the woman that she’s an expert.
“At first I told her I didn’t mean to offend but she just kept going off on me saying in her whole career no one has ever done that,” the woman wrote.
She said she lost her “cool” after a few minutes of listening and fired back, saying that she didn’t ask for her expertise and told her she didn’t want to cut off five extra inches.
“I have to live with this hair,” the woman told her, adding that she normally wears her hair curly. Nevertheless, the hairstylist supposedly insisted that she knew best.
“The stylist had such an extreme reaction saying how inappropriate it was,” the woman wrote, adding that the hairstylist told her to “learn how to behave in a salon.”
With that, the woman decided to leave without paying for the services. She noted at the end of her post that the interaction caused a “whole scene” and she’s starting to “second guess” it all, which is why she’s asking Reddit for help.
In the comment section, fellow Reddit users affirmed the woman in her decision to leave the salon while saying the stylist had “some nerve.”

“Good for you for standing up for yourself. 5 inches is WAY too much!” one user said before encouraging the woman to speak with the owner of the salon.
“Whilst we pay for their expertise, their job is also to give us the cut we’ve asked for, not what they feel might suit us better,” wrote another user.
“A low ranking review will be sure to get their attention, wrote one user. “That should make them take you seriously and do as they’re told in future.”
