NEED TO KNOW

  • Montserrat Luna was surprised with a trolley proposal surrounded by close friends and family in Dallas
  • Her now-fiancé was able to hide the proposal from her until all her friends arrived
  • The video of the engagement went viral, amassing over 4.5 million views

Montserrat Luna didn’t think anything of it when she and her boyfriend, Benjamin Battleson, were invited to visit his brother and sister-in-law in Dallas.

Luna and Battleson, who live in Atlanta, were told that the couple had gotten tickets to a special chef dinner and invited them to join.

The day of the dinner, however, the sister-in-law said that the event was actually sold out and they didn’t have tickets. So, they made a “change of plans” and got last-minute reservations at an upscale seafood spot.

“We had a nice dinner, and then his sister-in-law suggested we go for a ride on the trolley," Luna, 23, tells PEOPLE. "We walked to the trolley stop, and his brother and sister-in-law suggested it would be really cute to get a picture with the trolley in the background.”

As Luna and Battleson posed for a picture, a trolley arrived at the stop — filled with their loved ones.

“I turned around to get on, and I saw my best friends through the window smiling, and then I saw Ben’s best friend as well," Luna recalls. "As soon as I saw those people in the same room, I knew exactly what was going on!"

"I was immediately shocked and began to cry. Ben guided me to the trolley, and when I got in, all of our close friends and family were in there," she says. "Ben got down on one knee, and I said yes! After, we had our engagement party on that trolley around the city."

The couple has been together since 2022, after matching on Bumble. Luna says their first date lasted for eight hours as they didn’t want the night to end. Since then, they have adopted two cats, Lorelai and Uno.

Luna shares that she “knew” the proposal would happen sometime in 2026. In fact, she originally had an inkling that it would happen that day, but her now-fiancé and best friend convinced her it wasn't.

Leading up to the proposal, she says everything "was very normal," noting that she went to breakfast with a few friends who happened to live in Dallas and then worked from home for the day.

“Once the workday ended, I remember getting ready and feeling so cute for a night out in the city,” Luna shares.

“When I walked onto the trolley, I just couldn’t believe my eyes. I looked out and saw my brother and his sister and all of my closest friends," she continues. "These are the people who have truly watched our relationship grow, so having them there to witness the proposal was actually magical.”

Luna shares that, in that moment, she was “overwhelmed with emotion.”

“I always told Ben I wanted to be able to celebrate our engagement with the people we loved most, so to be able to have them there was so emotional," she says.

The thing that made it the most special was the fact that “all of the people we loved most were there.”

“Even though it was a semi-public proposal, it felt truly so intimate," she emphasizes. "Our song, ‘Signals,’ by Junius Meyvant, was playing through the trolley over the proposal. The words he said to me truly stayed between him and me. I have never experienced or seen a declaration of love like the one I experienced. It felt so unique and special.”
