Woman Learns She’s Pregnant Days After the Death of Her OB/GYN, Her Best Friend’s Dad: ‘Still Sending Miracles’ (Exclusive)

  • Megan Thomas discovered she was pregnant just days after her trusted OB/GYN — her best friend’s father — died suddenly
  • Her emotional TikTok captured the moment she told her best friend the news
  • Both women see the timing as a powerful sign that Dr. DeSanto, who helped Megan through a long fertility journey, is making miracles happen from above

When Megan Thomas found out she was pregnant on Valentine’s Day, it felt like a miracle — and not just because of the long fertility journey she had endured.

Just five days earlier, her best friend Hannah DeSanto’s father, Dr. Greg DeSanto — a beloved OB/GYN who had been instrumental in Megan’s fertility journey — had died unexpectedly on Super Bowl Sunday.

In a touching TikTok video, Megan shared the moment she revealed her pregnancy to Hannah and her family. “This is not a coincidence,” Megan tells PEOPLE. “This is beyond miracle status — just sent from above.”

For Megan and her husband — who had faced numerous challenges throughout their fertility journey, including struggles with celiac disease and a diagnosis of PCOS — the news was a beacon of hope at the end of a long road filled with uncertainty.

Initially hesitant about her options for getting pregnant after facing hormonal imbalances and painful symptoms, Megan turned to Hannah for advice. Hannah suggested her father review Megan’s hormone panel.

Dr. DeSanto guided Megan through ovulation tracking, prescribed medications like Metformin for insulin resistance and referred her to specialists when necessary.

His unwavering support brought options Megan hadn’t considered before: “He just opened up this whole world of everybody’s journey to kids being so different,” she explains.

When Dr. DeSanto died suddenly, his absence left a void not only in his family but also in Megan’s journey. She recalls feeling lost. “He was our anchor to figuring all this out … not knowing what even lies ahead for us at this point,” she says.

Yet just days later, Megan took a pregnancy test on a whim — expecting nothing — and saw two lines appear. She describes the surreal moment: “I ran to the store and took like seven more tests because I just didn’t believe it.”

Sharing the news with Hannah was equally emotional. Megan admits struggling with how to approach her best friend during such a difficult time. “Under any other circumstances, I wouldn’t bring this up at this point,” she notes.

But knowing how deeply involved Dr. DeSanto had been in her journey made it feel right. “It felt like he sent this miracle from above,” she adds.

For Hannah, hearing the news brought comfort during an unimaginably tough week. “I’m so glad [she] did tell me because we needed some kind of good news at that moment,” she shares with PEOPLE.

She added that her father’s legacy as an OB/GYN — a career he cherished deeply — made the timing feel even more special. “He loved helping people start families,” his daughter shares. “He always said he had the happiest job in the world.”

Dr. DeSanto’s impact extended far beyond his immediate circle. Since his death, patients have reached out to share stories of how he changed their lives — some crediting him with saving their loved ones or making parenthood possible when they thought it wasn’t an option.

Hannah reflects on these messages: “It’s been wild to see how many people have come out of the woodwork. Dad was really cool.”

For both women, honoring Dr. DeSanto’s legacy remains central as they move forward. Hannah plans to keep his memory alive by being part of Megan’s baby’s life and cherishing moments that remind her of him. “It feels like there’s a little piece of him here,” she says.

Megan echoes similar sentiments about continuing his work through love and community. “This baby is already so loved and supported. It feels like everything is going to work out now because this is bigger than us,” she says.

She also emphasizes the importance of connecting with others during fertility struggles. “Find your people and really lean on them … You’re going to feel better having people know what’s going on versus feeling like you can’t say anything,” she shares.

As for Hannah, she believes Megan getting pregnant after her father’s death makes absolute sense. As she puts it, “Dad would send a baby down if you believe in all that. He’s making miracles happen up there somehow.”
