Woman Made Insensitive Comment to Friend with Fertility Issues During a Fight — but She Doesn’t Think She’s at Fault

  • A woman and her friend had different reactions after the car they were in was rear-ended while her 3-month-old baby was sitting in the back
  • In a Reddit post, the woman explained that she made an “insensitive” comment to her friend who has PCOS [polycystic ovary syndrome] after being called a bad mom
  • “I told her when she has her own, and god forbid they get into a crash, she can yank her kid out of the carseat and do as she pleases,” the woman explained

A woman is showing no signs of regret after making an “insensitive” comment while arguing with a friend.

The 28-year-old mother explained in a lengthy Reddit post that during a recent outing with her friend, 26, and her 3-month-old baby, someone rear-ended her car. She said her friend was “hysterical” and rushing to take the baby out of the vehicle despite no fire or evidence of “mortal danger.”

The woman said she “harshly” told her friend not to remove the baby from the car and tried to soothe the infant without holding her.

“At the hospital, both my friend and I got the all clear, and we were waiting for the baby to be cleared,” the woman said. “My friend went off on me, telling me I’m a bad mom for not removing the baby from the car seat.”

The woman said she defended herself by reassuring her friend that keeping the baby in the car seat was the best option to avoid worsening any potential injury.

However, “she kept berating me, I was frustrated already and I told her when she has her own, and god forbid they get into a crash, she can yank her kid out of the carseat and do as she pleases,” the OP [original poster] said.

“She got quiet and said I’m an a—— for bringing it up because she has trouble conceiving, she has PCOS [polycystic ovary syndrome], and may not be able to carry a pregnancy to term,” the woman continued.

“Idt [I don’t think] I’m the a– for bringing up a hypothetical situation or I don’t know if my frustration got the best of me, and I was insensitive, but AITA [am I the a——]  for making that statement?” the OP asked.

The post garnered hundreds of comments, with the majority of people reassuring the OP that she wasn’t in the wrong.

One person said, “You said ‘when she has her own child’ and not’ if you ever manage to get the breeding thing figured out,’ so I feel like you’re perfectly aware and supportive of her condition. I don’t think your phrasing was offensive, just realistic.”

Another commented, “NTA [not the a–—–]. Child safety comes first. Not every situation is perfect, but you handled yours considering your child’s best interest. Don’t let anyone guilt you for that.”

A third wrote, “NTA. It was insensitive considering her situation, but so was her calling you a bad mom and berating you for something she obviously knew nothing about.”

Another added, “NTA…you should have had the hospital staff explain to her the importance of keeping the baby/child in the car seat until properly examined (EMS,DR). It was a heated discussion as everyone was concerned about the baby, I think you both need to let it go…if your friendship is important.”
