Woman Refused to Read Friend’s Tarot Cards About a Serious Legal Problem — Now Her Friend Is ‘Really Upset’

  • A woman says her friend is mad at her for not reading her tarot cards about a serious legal matter
  • She said she told the friend she “should really find a lawyer” instead
  • The woman shared her story on a popular Reddit forum, where she asked others whether she made the right call

A woman says she’s in hot water with a friend after she refused to give her a tarot reading about  a serious legal matter.

The 31-year-old shared her story on the popular Reddit forum, “Am I the A——?”, a place where Redditors can go for input and advice about interpersonal issues. In her post, she shared that she enjoys “witchy” things, like tarot cards, herbal tinctures and crystals.

However, she also clarified that she never uses these things for problems that require real-world solutions.

“If I’m being audited by the IRS, I’m consulting an accountant, not tarot,” she said.

The original poster (OP) went on to say that she has a friend named “Grace” who is in “legal trouble,” and that Grace recently asked her to read her tarot cards “to see the outcome of the situation.”

The woman said she refused, as “this is a situation where she needs to hire her own lawyer and probably be prepared for some serious consequences.”

“Grace got really upset, saying this would help her know what to expect and put her mind at ease, and that I wasn’t being a good friend,” the OP said.

The OP added that she is now wondering if she made the right call.

“I think a good friend sometimes has to give their friends hard truths, but [at the same time], tarot doesn’t always take long, and it could make her feel better,” the woman said before asking, “AITA? [am I the a——]?”

The OP’s fellow Reddit users were quick to assure her that she had made the right call, despite what her friend may think.

“You’re being a good friend by refusing. It’s far kinder to tell it to her straight (that she needs a lawyer, not a card reading) […]. I’d hope my friends would do [that] if I ever asked them to do something that would end very poorly for me. NTA [not the a——],” one person said,

Another person said, “NTA. I’m also a tarot reader and having boundaries, like not reading on legal or medical matters, is a safety and ethical issue. This is simply you protecting her as well as yourself.”

“Tell her the tarot tells her to get a lawyer,” suggested someone else.
