NEED TO KNOW
- One woman is 34 weeks pregnant and looking for advice
- She wrote that her roommate eats all her food, sleeps naked and doesn’t pay rent
- She went to Reddit to ask for advice on how to handle the situation
There are some nightmare roommates out there.
This is what one 24-year-old woman is learning about her 30-year-old roommate. The woman is 34 weeks pregnant and shared with Reddit that she’s “at the breaking point.”
“She is miserable to live with, and I need real advice on how to handle this because I’m 34 weeks pregnant and completely worn down,” she stated in her post.
The woman then went on to say that her roommate “eats everything” and never buys food for the house.
“She claims to have celiac disease, but somehow eats every single thing I get with gluten in it — no hesitation, no reaction except pretending it never happened,” the woman shared. “It’s gotten to the point where I’m going hungry in my third trimester because she literally wipes out all of our food the moment it appears. She once ate straight butter from the tub. She already ate all the Thanksgiving food before Thanksgiving even happened.”
The woman also shared that her roommate sleeps naked on the couch, and one can see her right when they walk in. She then goes on to say that the woman doesn’t pay rent.
“I don’t know where my part of the money is going but I’m probably assuming it’s her weekly trips upstate, but it’s definitely not going toward rent or bills. Meanwhile, I’m pregnant, trying to prepare for a newborn, and dealing with someone who financially drains the house on top of everything else,” the woman shared.
“I’m exhausted. I shouldn’t have to fight for food in my own home or deal with this level of disrespect and instability. But moving isn’t instant, and kicking someone out is a process. What do I even do here? I’m trying to move out quietly so she won’t drain me from my wallet anymore,” the woman wrote.
In an edit to the post, the woman shared that her roommate has a plan to move out of the apartment and needs advice on how to live with her until she moves out.
People in the comments were supportive of the woman and gave her advice on how to best handle the situation.
“I gather you give money and she’s supposed to pay the rent. Hopefully you’ve paid her through a method that has a paper or electronic trail. Contact the landlord, tell him what’s going on. Don’t give your roommate anymore money only send it directly to the landlord. You’re probably going to need to move out. I think she’s a con artist. The weird obnoxious behavior is designed to force you out after you’ve given her rent money,” one person commented.
“You need to move out. If you are on the lease then contact the landlord and figure things out. Or get her to move out,” another person commented.
