A woman is questioning whether she was in the right to leave her hairstylist a bad review after she was forced to reschedule several appointments.
In a post shared to Reddit’s “Am I the A——?” forum, a 26-year-old woman shared that she dyes her hair, and thus routinely goes in to have her roots touched up. “I’ve been seeing this stylist, Em, for the past two years at this same salon. In the beginning, she was great!” the Redditor shared. “However, once she got engaged, I felt her punctuality started to slip.”
According to the post, the first rescheduling incident happened when she got a call just hours before an appointment and was told that Em wouldn’t able to do her hair that day. “I asked to be booked with another stylist and that was arranged,” she recalled. “After I sat in other stylist’s chair, stylist told me, ‘Yeah, sorry, Em is in Italy with her fiancée and wont be back till next week.’ I said OK.’ ”
“Fast forward to a year later, my cousin was getting married and I pre-booked Em a whole month in advance to touch up my roots the Friday before,” she continued. “A week prior, I get a call from the receptionist claiming, ‘Em wont be coming in that day, can I get you on her books for next weekend?’ ”

The woman shared that she was “flabbergasted” and explained that she would be flying out to a wedding in just a few days. The salon was quick to book her with another stylist.
“The next time I sat in Em’s chair, she claimed she had to go wedding dress shopping, which is why she had to cancel on me,” the Redditor continued. “This really pissed me off, as I work full time and do not have a lot of availability for rescheduling over unimportant shenanigans like these.”
According to the post, the “final straw” came when the woman got an interview for her “dream job,” and decided to book another hair appointment just a few days beforehand so she could look her best for the big day.
“The receptionist calls me [five days before the] interview to tell me, ‘Something came up and Em cannot come in Saturday. Lets get you on her books for next weekend!’ ” she recalled. “I said I wasn’t available next weekend, I was only available Saturday (tomorrow), so who else is available?”
“They reluctantly mentioned another stylist, Ash, and when I asked Ash’s services cost $90. When I came in the next day Ash was ‘shocked to see me on her books,’ ” the woman continued. “I explained about the interview, then she quotes me $200 (which I didn’t yet have). I explained that I didn’t quite have $200 on me and I was quoted $90 over the phone.”
“Ash, annoyed, then suggested I ‘next time just stick with my regular stylist, as they know my hair best,’ ” the poster added. “She then walks me to the front to book with Em for next weekend, but I instead started walking out the door. Ash asked, ‘Hey, don’t you want to get on her books for next weekend?’ I responded that I am not available next weekend, I am available today.”
The moment the woman got into her car to drive away, she pulled out her phone to write a negative review about her experiences on Google, noting Em’s “lack of professionalism and how the salon would rather protect stylist feelings than deliver proper customer service.”
This social media user then started to question if she had done the right thing after Em reached out to her on Instagram to ask if everything was okay, because she had heard about the incident at the salon. “I replied that her unreliability is why I’m finding a new stylist because its just not working for me,” she shared. “Em then unfollowed me without saying anything, but am I [the a——] here?”
The Reddit community was quick to come to the woman’s defense, writing that she was justified to leave a negative review after such a complicated booking experience.
“This is a three strikes situation and you kept trying to give the salon and your original hair stylist a chance,” one commenter replied. “The salon as a whole should have had better communication with you and other people deserve to know, truthfully.”
“The step in stylist should have honored what the salon told you over the phone and should not have cancelled on you while you were there,” they added, before making a recommendation. “Find a new salon and hair stylist that values your time and money.”
“Although she does have the right to have a life of her own, thus leading to sometimes need to reschedule, this have happened quite a few times and is, indeed unprofessional,” another commenter added. “You also have every right to warn other prospective clients of said unprofessionalism.”
