Would Gregg Sulkin Join ‘Only Murders in the Building’ as Selena Gomez’s Love Interest? (Exclusive)

Selena Gomez‘s Only Murders in the Building character hasn’t had the best luck with love — so should her former love interest Gregg Sulkin join to show how it is done?

“I think Only Murders in the Building — as far as I know — is doing very, very, very well,” Sulkin, 33, exclusively told Us Weekly while promoting Hulu’s The Kollective. “However, any chance to work with Selena, I would always embrace it.”

Sulkin was grateful for his experience with Gomez, 32, on Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place, adding, “I started my U.S. career on the show with her. So it’s a relationship that I’ve always valued and respected and appreciated. So you never know.”

Wizards of Waverly Place, which aired from 2007 to 2012, followed three siblings that are equipped with magical abilities. Sulkin won Us over when he joined in season 3 as Alex’s (Gomez) love interest Mason.

Selena Gomez scored her breakout role playing teenage wizard Alex Russo on Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place. The series, which ran for four seasons from 2007 to 2012, followed Alex and her brothers, Justin and Max, played by David Henrie and Jake T. Austin, as they learned the ins and outs of the wizard […]

The fictional couple ended the series together but Alex was the only one to make a guest appearance on Disney+’s spinoff Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. After fans suspected that Alex could be pregnant, Sulkin weighed in on whether Mason is the father.

“I have no idea,” he admitted. “I wouldn’t be able to answer that one.”

Since wrapping up his time on Disney, Sulkin has remained a consistent presence on our TV screeners with roles in shows such as Pretty Little Liars, Faking It, Runaways, Pretty Smart and now The Kollective.

“It’s so different. The scripts were really good. The show focuses on something that I think we all can relate to now, which is that there’s a lot of corruption going on in the world,” Sulkin explained to Us. “We all very interested and intrigued at poking holes to make sure that stories are accurate and fact checked and true.”

Sulkin called The Kollective “a very timely” project, adding, “I knew that with this team it was going to be very well executed and thankfully it was. I’m really actually pumped for people to see it.”

The Kollective, which premiered on Tuesday, June 10, picks up after a tragedy that inspires young journalists to expose government corruption and lies through a dangerous investigation.

“It definitely gave me a newfound respect [of journalism]. You understand how dangerous it is because journalists are really on the front lines of holding people in power as much as possible. They’re holding them accountable,” Sulkin noted. “Obviously there’s a group called Bellingcat and as a cast we were very aware of it.”

He continued: “We spoke to our showrunner, director and spoke amongst ourselves. We did a lot of research. The Kollective is pretty new as a group and then obviously we made it our own. We definitely did as much research as possible.”

The Kollective is currently streaming on Hulu.
