Zach Galifianakis isn’t planning on another Hangover anytime soon.
When the actor, 55, caught up with PEOPLE at the Los Angeles premiere of Disney’s live-action reimagining of Lilo & Stitch on Saturday, May 17, he explained that he never means to “shut the door.”
However, “this town loves to keep going on things, and sometimes it’s like, time to check the watch and read the room,” Galifianakis shared. “I’ve only had the entertainment reporters ask me about if I’m going to do another Hangover movie.”
The 2009 blockbuster comedy followed four friends on a wild bachelor trip in Las Vegas. It spawned two sequels, one in 2011 and another in 2013.
“I don’t think people care,” he continued of the fandom. “I’ll be honest with you, I don’t think there is an audience for it. That’s the way I see it.”
In his latest role, the actor and comedian plays Dr. Jumba Jookiba, the scientist who creates Disney’s lovable and excitable blue alien Stitch, in the new Lilo & Stitch movie. The late David Ogden Stiers voiced the character in Disney’s 2002 original animated movie. But fans still remember the actor for his hilarious turn in The Hangover franchise.
In 2023, The Hangover costar Bradley Cooper told The New Yorker Radio Hour host David Remnick that he would jump back into the franchise anytime.
“I would probably do Hangover 4 in an instant,” the filmmaker and actor said. “Just because I love [director] Todd [Phillips], I love Zach, I love Ed [Helms] so much, I probably would.”
He added of the movie’s director, however, “I don’t think Todd is ever going to do that.”

Helms has agreed. “Like Bradley said, it is highly unlikely Todd would be up for it,” he told PEOPLE in 2023, adding, “I mean, Bradley, Zach, Todd — these are some of my favorite people on the planet, so I would do anything with them. Oh my God, I would do anything with those guys.”
The Hangover became a box-office hit when it premiered on June 5, 2009, making $469 million worldwide. Helms, Cooper and Galifianakis all reprised their roles as Stu, Phil and Alan, respectively, in both follow-ups, along with Justin Bartha, who played Doug.
Galifianakis’ new movie, Lilo & Stitch, is in theaters May 23.
