A beloved teen volleyball player died in a highway car crash in Western Victoria.
According to local Australian outlets 7 News and 10 News, 14-year-old Tenesha Fieldsend was killed in a three-car crash on Sunday, Sept. 27.
The accident occurred at 6:45 p.m., according to the outlets. Fieldsend, who had just just won bronze with her team at the Volleyball Victoria Junior Country Championships hours before the crash, was returning home from the volleyball competition when the accident happened, according to 10 News.
Fieldsend was traveling in the passenger seat of a Mitsubishi Triton driven by her 17-year-old brother, according to 10 News. Another car and a truck were also involved in the crash, the outlets reported.

The volleyball player was airlifted to a hospital, but died from critical injuries later that evening. The two people in the other car reportedly died on the scene, and police are still working on identifying them, according to 10 News.
Fieldsend’s 11-year-old sister was also injured in the accident and airlifted to the hospital, 7 News reported, though her condition remains unknown.
Fieldsend is remembered by Latrobe Valley volleyball coach Blake Hunter for her “heart of gold.”
“She was proud of everything she did, her mom was proud of everything she did,” he told 10 News in a segment.

Volleyball Victoria issued a statement to the station, saying, “This tragic loss has sent shockwaves through the tight knit volleyball community here in Victoria, particularly the members of LaTrobe Valley Volleyball Association who Tenesha represented.”
LaTrobe Valley Volleyball told the station Fieldsend “was a much-loved part of our sporting community,” and said it “feels extra special” that she won the medal over the weekend.
