A college athlete has died and two high school students have been hospitalized following a car crash in Texas.
Nineteen-year-old Sam Musgrave, a student at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) in San Antonio, died in the crash, which occurred in the city of Sanger on the night of Thursday, May 28, according to Fox 4 KDFW.
The Sanger Independent School District confirmed on Facebook that there had been "a serious vehicle accident," and that a 2025 Sanger High School graduate had died at the scene, while two current students had been injured. All three were cross-country runners, the post, which didn't name the victims, said.

In an Instagram message, the UIW track and cross-country program paid tribute to Musgrave and his smile, which they said "lit up every room you entered."
"Words cannot adequately describe our heartbreak," the post's caption read. "We love you and will miss you dearly. You made such a remarkable difference in your life."

Musgrave's uncle, Evan Vasquez, told Fox 4 KDFW that his nephew had completed basic military training for the Texas National Guard, as well as finishing his first semester at UIW.
"He had a strong community here in Sanger," Vasquez told the outlet. "He was loved by everybody. Anybody he came in contact with, he made friends with."
Vasquez continued, "He had big dreams to run cross-country, own his own business, serve his country, serve his family, protect his family and protect his country," adding, "Unfortunately, that was taken from us," per Fox 4 KDFW.
Vasquez told Fox 4 KDFW that Musgrave "excelled" in cross-country and track, while many of the victim's teammates, friends and peers paid tribute to him by leaving comments on UIW's Instagram post.
"Absolutely one of the best humans I've known," wrote one, while another said, "I would go to my brother's basketball games with no one to talk to. This guy would sit and speak with me the entire game. That's love, that's kindness."
Further details about the crash have not been released, and Vasquez told Fox 4 KDFW that the family is hoping for answers. "We've tried to get closure," he said. "I think it's just been grief that's been added by the lack of answers and the lack of information."
