A Minnesota city council voted to revoke the license of a local hotel after police responded to 84 incidents at the property in less than two years.
A memo prepared for Shakopee, Minn.’s City Council meeting on July 21, revealed police responded to the local Baymont by Wyndham 41 times in 2025 and 43 times so far in 2026. The incidents include disturbances, assaults, threats, suspicious persons and vehicles, criminal sexual conduct and other calls requiring police, fire and emergency medical response.
The resolution, approved in a 4-1 vote on Tuesday, prevents the 175-room hotel from accepting reservations and allowing new guests to occupy the property.

While the memo recognized the city “does not expect a hotel operator to prevent every criminal act, disturbance, medical emergency, or request for police assistance” at the property, they do expect owners to “responsibly manage the premises.”
The municipal body pointed to two events of particular concern. On Jan. 1, 2025, police found two deceased individuals inside a hotel room following a “private adult-lifestyle event” in which the entire hotel was rented to a company called Midwest Euphoria.
Authorities reportedly found illegal narcotics near the pair and later ruled their deaths as accidental, per Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
The second, the city alleges, on March 28 and 29, the property permitted private 24-hour events that resulted in “threats of potential gang violence, assaults, disturbances, repeated fire alarms, suspected ordinance violations, the assignment of additional Shakopee police officers on overtime, and 16 calls for service.”

The property was also accused of violating multiple ordinances regarding prostitution, public nuisance, unlicensed sale of alcohol, unlicensed sale of cannabis, and unlawful use or possession of a firearm.
During the Tuesday city council meeting, hotel co-owner Jas Singh and attorney Megan Rogers admitted mistakes were made on the part of the hotel. However, they argued the business should remain open due to significant investments made over the past year. The attorney also pointed to the Baymont property playing a large role in local tourism as Six Flags’ Valleyfair amusement park is located less than two miles away.
“I would like to run this hotel by the book with rules and regulations absolutely 100% in place,” Singh told the council. “We are not going to permit any full hotel buyouts at all… We are not going to permit any third-party ticket promoters.”
Despite the promises, the council approved the resolution revoking the license.
“You have an obligation and a responsibility to do certain things under law — various laws, including state laws, city law and federal laws, along with fire marshal laws,” Shakopee Mayor Matt Lehman said before the vote. “You managed to violate all of them. It’s unbelievable.”
One of the property’s co-owners, Navi, who did not disclose his name to the Business Journal, told the outlet on Thursday that the hotel remains open. He argued the directive is not immediate and shared that the ownership group is considering an appeal of the council’s decision.
