2025 US Open champion J.J. Spaun has had his wife, Melody Spaun, by his side throughout the highs and lows of his professional golfing career.
The couple — who got married in July 2019 — experienced a major high when Melody was on hand to see J.J. win his first major championship at the US Open at Pennsylvania’s Oakmont Country Club in June 2025.
While some golf fans raised an eyebrow at the way Melody and J.J. interacted after the tournament, Melody had nothing but praise for her husband while basking in the aftermath of his victory.
“Honestly, I feel like he’s always been the underdog,” Melody told the PGA Tour while standing on the 18th green. “I feel like the underdog finally got his day. He’s finally proved himself. He’s one of the most humble people I know. I just feel like he’s finally gained his confidence and now it’s showing. He finally feels like he belongs here and he’s proving it to everyone.”
Melody added, “To see him here now, he deserves everything.”

2013
J.J. and Melody started dating, which he humorously recalled in a 2023 interview with Golf.com.
“I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m a pro golfer.’ Because I thought I was cool,” J.J. said of their first date. “But she’s like, ‘I don’t even know. What does that mean? Like, does that mean you’re like rich or something?’ I was like, ‘No.’ And she’s like, ‘I don’t really care.’ And I was like, ‘Alright.’”
J.J. added, “We went mini-golfing or something. She’s like, ‘This is lame.’”
The couple first appeared on social media together in June 2013, when J.J. shared a picture via Instagram from a trip to the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa, California.
“Good to be back home and with this girl!” J.J. wrote.
August 2015
Melody surprised J.J. with tickets to a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game for his birthday.
“Best birthday surprise ever,” J.J. shared via Instagram alongside a photo from the game at Dodger Stadium.
January 2019
The couple announced they were engaged.
“Of all the places I’ve been… the only place I want to be is with you. ♥️,” J.J. shared via Instagram.
February 2019
Weeks after their engagement, J.J. gushed about Melody on Valentine’s Day.
“Happy Valentine’s Day to my laundrywoman, barista, travel agent, #1 supporter, and fiancée,” he wrote via Instagram. “Life would be too hard without you! 😘”
July 2019
J.J. and Melody got married in an oceanside wedding.
May 2020
The couple announced they were expecting their first baby.
“On the tee— party of 3!,” J.J. wrote via Instagram.
He shared a photo of the pregnancy announcement, which included an ultrasound picture.
“Thanksgiving turkey in the oven early,” the announcement read. “Due Nov 2020.”
November 2020
The couple’s first baby, daughter Emerson, arrived on schedule.
June 2023
J.J. and Melody welcomed their second daughter, Violet, just days before he played in the Travelers Championship.
“[Melody] was the one who said, ‘If the baby comes Monday, would you consider going?’” J.J. said at the time. “‘I would allow you to go, but I kind of don’t want you to go. But if you can make it worth your while there, then I’m OK with you going.’”

He added, “We decided Tuesday morning. We waited to see if the tests were all good and they would be discharged within 24 hours. If I would have stayed [at the hospital] Tuesday night, too, no way I would have even tried to come.”
After Violet was born on Monday, J.J. teed off at the Travelers Championship on Thursday afternoon.
June 2025
Hours before J.J.’s dramatic US Open victory, he and Melody were up in the middle of the night dealing with a sick child.
“Well, today I was running to CVS in downtown because my daughter had a stomach bug and was vomiting all night long,” J.J. told reporters after his final round. “My wife was up at 3 a.m. and she’s like, ‘Violet’s vomiting all over. She can’t keep anything down.’ So it was kind of a rough start to the morning.”
Melody and the couple’s two daughters all made it to the tournament to see J.J.’s moment of glory in person.
“My daughter asks me every time Dad goes golfing, she’s like, ‘Were you the winner today?’” J.J. said. “Sometimes I’m like, ‘Yeah, I was.’ And she’s like, ‘Where’s my surprise?’ Today she’s like, ‘You’re the winner today.’ She got to see it. She didn’t have to ask me. That was a really fun moment.”
