A 21-year-old New York woman has died after the jet ski she was on crashed into a boat.

The fatal accident occurred on the Sacandaga Lake in New York State around 6:15 p.m. local time on Monday, June 23, according to a news release from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Grace Clark was operating a jet ski on the lake when she “collided with a pontoon boat,” which was traveling at about 20 mph at the time of the crash, the FCSO said in a subsequent news release.

Clark died “as a result of the collision,” which took place just north of the Broadalbin Boat Launch, according to the sheriff’s office.

She was born in Texas and graduated from Schalmont High School, located in Schenectady, N.Y., they added.

Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man from Schoharie County who was on the jet ski with Clark when the crash occurred was injured and hospitalized at the Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Several people were on the boat at the time of the crash, but miraculously, no one was injured. The sheriff’s office said, “there was no indication of alcohol or other drug involvement on the part of the boat operator.”

The boat operator, the boat passengers, and the surviving jet ski rider “have been very cooperative,” they added.

An autopsy was performed on Clark on Tuesday, the FCSO said. An investigation into the crash, including the speed of the jet ski, is ongoing, they added.

“The Sheriff wishes to thank all those who assisted, from the dispatchers to the EMS, fire, law enforcement, and the dive team,” the sheriff’s office said. “He also thanked members of the public who witnessed the event and assisted or cooperated by giving statements.”

Sacandaga Lake is located about 55 miles from Albany, N.Y., according to its tourism website. The lake is located on the southern edge of the Adirondack Park, NYup.com reported.

Located in the Adirondack region, Adirondack Park encompasses “one-third of the total land area of New York State,” officials said.
