A 5-month-old baby girl drowned at a hotel in Leacock Township, Penn., on Monday, May 11.
The infant died at the Best Western Plus Intercourse Village Inn & Suites in Lancaster County, the Pennsylvania State Police said, according to NBC 10.
Authorities were alerted to the reported drowning around 6 p.m., Local 21 News reported. The dispatcher was notified that the child was in cardiac arrest after being pulled from the water.
When first responders arrived, they immediately tried to resuscitate the child, but were unsuccessful. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police, the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office and the Department of Human Services' Office of Children, Youth, and Families are investigating the child's death, WGAL reported. Her mother is cooperating with the investigation.
Best Western confirmed in a comment to PEOPLE that the company is also "cooperating with local government officials."
The Lancaster County Coroner's Office will conduct the autopsy to determine the baby's cause and manner of death, NBC 10 reported, citing officials.
