The SUV driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities following the incident, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said
Officials are asking witnesses or anyone with information to contact the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station
Police are investigating after a 78-year-old male cyclist was killed in a vehicle collision in San Marcos in San Diego County, Calif.
On Tuesday, April 21 at around 12:11 p.m. local time, deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff's Station responded to reports of a collision in the 1900 block of West San Marcos Boulevard, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office said.
“Upon arrival, deputies learned the collision occurred between a white Lexus SUV and a 78-year-old male bicyclist riding a regular bicycle. The bicyclist was found in the westbound lanes of W. San Marcos Boulevard,” the release stated.
Deputies and paramedics performed life-saving measures on the cyclist at the scene, but he was sadly pronounced deceased at 12:26 p.m., authorities confirmed. The victim and the driver of the vehicle have not been identified at this time.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown.
“The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor in this collision,” the sheriff's office added.
The San Marcos Sheriff's Station Traffic Unit is investigating the incident.
All roads near the collision were reopened by authorities just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, NBC 7 San Diego reported.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about what happened to contact the San Marcos Sheriff's Station.
