A 7-year-old is in critical condition after overdosing on fentanyl and methamphetamine, which police say she ingested in a slushie.

Police responded to a 911 call for the young girl on the 8600 block of Olden Avenue in Charlack, Mo., on April 19, the St. Ann Police Department said in a press release.

"During the investigation, officers developed probable cause to believe illegal narcotics use contributed to the child’s medical condition," police said.

Police determined that the girl, whose identity has not been publicly released on account of her age, had overdosed on fentanyl and methamphetamine. She was brought to a nearby hospital, where she remains in "critical condition," police said.

Jaslyn Raquelle Crawford allegedly told investigators that she was using the drugs in the bathroom of the girl's mother's home when the 7-year-old entered the bathroom, KSDK reports, citing police. Investigators believe the drugs got into the girl's slushie, KSDK reports. Authorities also told the outlet they allegedly discovered the drugs in her bra and purse when she was taken into custody.

"It’s one of those tragic cases that you come across every now and then that you feel like shouldn’t happen,” St. Ann Police Department Capt. Blake Carrigan told KSDK, adding that it was the 7-year-old's mother who called 911.

After the investigation, Crawford was arrested. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged her with Endangering the Welfare of a Child – 1st Degree (Serious Physical Injury) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child – Creating Substantial Risk – 1st Degree, both felonies.

"Crawford received a $250,000 cash only bond with no 10% bond revision allowed," police said.

“Even the smallest amount of fentanyl and these deadly drugs if a child were to touch the dust of it, touch their mouth, or just touch the bare minimum they’re able to overdose on that amount,” St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Price Smith told KSDK.
