- The children are homeschooled in the vehicle
- “We are literally having the best time,” said mom Amy Edwards
After a mom quit her job, she and her husband decided to homeschool their children while their family travels across Europe.
Amy Edwards, a mom of nine who previously worked as a hairdresser, opted to take her eldest children out of school after the COVID-19 pandemic, and she began to homeschool them instead, according to Kennedy News & Media.
"Although I was self-employed and had flexibility, I still found myself having to put my children in after-school clubs," Amy, 40, said. "I look back and feel that I didn't get to raise my own children."
"My older five children never went back to school after the pandemic, and my younger children have never known the school system," she added. "Their education is self-led, so they're allowed to lead me to what they're interested in and we'll study that."

In July 2025, Amy and her husband, Shane Edwards, bought a motorhome. They initially used it to travel to Wales and the Peak District with their family over the summer.
"I love outdoor living. There just isn't enough sunshine in the U.K. for that," Amy said. "I want to incorporate homesteading into our curriculum too, growing and eating our own food and raising our own animals."

Now, Reggie, 15, Belle, 8, Shane, 6, Jesse, 4, and Nelly, 1, are joining their parents as they travel around France — all while being homeschooled on the road.
"We aren't tied down to 28 days a year leave, and the children don't go to school, so we don't have to stick to school holidays, which is crazy busy and expensive," Amy explained. "We can make our life much cheaper home educating the children as well. I absolutely love the freedom."
According to Amy, she and her family have lived "quite a free-spirited life" in the U.K., but the decision to travel in the motorhome had "been in the pipeline for nine years."
"You've got to focus and get your priorities right," she said.
Amy has also explored the idea of setting down roots outside of the U.K., thanks to the family's travels, as it's "much cheaper to buy overseas, and better weather to build the lifestyle we want."

"Our end dream is to have land where we can grow our own crops and also have animals and bring all of this into the children's education," she explained.
Along her family's journey, Amy has shared their experiences on social media. In May, she posted an Instagram photo of a few of her kids enjoying some pool time in Portugal. Before that, they had traveled through the French Pyrenees.
As for what's next for the Edwards family, Amy said they are excited to see where their travels take them.

She said, "Since we've been on the road, we're like, 'Do we want to settle so soon? Shall we travel for longer?' Because we are literally having the best time."
