A 16-year-old died in an ATV crash in Lone Grove, Okla., on Wednesday, June 17.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. Walter Jack said the teen boy, who has not been publicly identified, was killed after two ATVs were driving together on a roadway in Lone Grove, KXII reports.
The accident occurred as one of the ATVs spotted an oncoming car and slowed down. The second ATV was operated by the victim, who then drove into the back of the first ATV. Following the impact, the driver of the second ATV was ejected into the road and struck by a Jeep that was traveling in the opposite direction, Jack said, per KXII.

The boy was transported to Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, where he was pronounced dead. He suffered internal and blunt force trauma, according to preliminary information, KTEN reports.
Neither ATV driver wore a helmet, per the outlet. No one else was injured. Everyone involved was a minor, including the Jeep driver.
“Helmets should be in use, appropriate helmets for the conditions of the ATV's," Jack said, per KXII. "They should abide by all rules of the road, stay in their same lane of traffic, no reckless driving and typically they should have their lights on for safety."
He also emphasized that ATVs are to be used for farming. If used on a roadway, they must be properly equipped "with headlights, turn signals, and caution lights so that they can make sure that they're visibly seen."
Although the teen's identity was not publicly released, Lone Grove Schools confirmed the deceased was a student in the district.
“We ask that you please keep this student's family, friends, and Lone Grove Schools in your thoughts and prayers in the extremely challenging times ahead,” Lone Grove Schools Superintendent Richie McKee said in a statement on Wednesday, June 17.
