Mary Bennet's story continues this holiday season on BritBox with a three-part special exploring what happens after the wedding when "real life begins"

An early Christmas gift has arrived for The Other Bennet Sister fans.
On Wednesday, June 24, as the season 1 finale premiered, BritBox announced the series following Mary Bennet's (Ella Bruccoleri) journey of self-discovery will return for a three-part Christmas special produced by Bad Wolf for BritBox North America and the BBC.
The specials will be written by Sarah Quintrell, who wrote nine of the 10 episodes, and are based on storylines by The Other Bennet Sister author Janice Hadlow. Asim Abbasi, who directed half of the season, will return to direct all three of the 30-minute specials.
In the finale, Mary and Mr. Hayward (Dónal Finn) finally confessed their love for one another after many, many interruptions from Mr. Ryder (Laurie Davidson). By the end, the pair were married and appeared to be settling into their new life together. However, the Christmas specials promise to explore what happens after happily ever after.

"We always hoped audiences would fall in love with Mary Bennet's story, but the response to The Other Bennet Sister has exceeded even our most optimistic expectations," Jane Tranter, executive producer and CEO of Bad Wolf, said in a statement.
"These Christmas specials give us the chance to spend a little more time with characters audiences have taken to their hearts, and to explore what happens after the wedding bells fade and real life begins," added Tranter. "Returning to the world of Mary Bennet with our brilliant partners at the BBC and BritBox feels like the perfect way to celebrate the success of the series and give viewers a treat this Christmas.”

The specials will film in Wales this summer, and Bruccoleri, 30, is confirmed to return. Additional cast announcements will be made at a later date but, according to the release, "a host of other familiar faces from the series" are set to return.

The Other Bennet Sister has proven to be a hit for BritBox, with the streamer reporting the show bringing in record-breaking numbers and having driven five times more new subscribers to the service within its first five weeks than any previous program.
