Mikaela Shiffrin revealed her thoughts on officially tying the knot following her 2024 engagement to fellow skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.
“We’re not wedding planning,” Shiffrin, 31, told PEOPLE on Wednesday, July 15 ahead of the 2026 ESPYS in New York City. “What I’m realizing is while we’re racing and we’re not together for most of the year… we just need to take the time to be together and maybe when at least one of us retires then we can probably get into it.”
“So it might be a little bit of time,” the American alpine skier added.
Wednesday's update comes after Shiffrin — who took home gold in the Slalom at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics — got engaged to the World Cup-winning alpine skier from Norway in 2024.
The two confirmed their relationship in 2021.
In December 2021, Kilde, 33, told Olympics.com that the two connected over their athletic backgrounds.

“We’re having an amazing time together,” he said. “What I find really cool is that we can share experiences and have conversations about things I can’t really have with anyone else. She has a lot of experience; I have some experience and we can make each other better.”
The couple announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post in April 2024.
“🤗🫶💍👫🤭,” the caption read as the pair posed together with mountains in the backdrop.

Beaming in the photos, the couple looked overjoyed as Shiffrin showed off her dazzling engagement ring, which featured a sparkling diamond set between two gold bands.
In the second snap, Kilde held up Shiffrin’s left hand for a closer look at the stunning ring. The final photo turned the camera on the Norwegian skier, who clasped his soon-to-be bride’s hand while widening his eyes and pursing his lips.
