A North Carolina community is awaiting more details about the discovery of two decomposing bodies along a nature trail after police announced the arrest of two suspects this week.
Jamar Quarmaine Propst and Tosha Lee Lewis were arrested and charged in connection with the killing of the two victims, whose bodies were discovered along the trail five days apart earlier this month, according to a joint press release by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the local Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
Propst and Lewis, both 36, were each charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of felony conspiracy, according to information released by the sheriff’s office Monday.
The NCSBI said the two suspects, who were identified as being homeless at the time of their arrests, were taken into custody on July 25 — five days after detectives began searching the area around the Mountain Nature Trail at Simpson Park in Glen Alpine.
The search came after police received information about “suspicious circumstances on the nature trail.”

The NCSBI said “human remains were located near the nature trail” the next day, prompting “a joint investigation into the death of the unidentified person” alongside the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
Propst and Lewis were subsequently arrested; later that same day, investigators discovered “additional human remains” along another part of the nature trail, per authorities.

The sheriff’s office identified the first victim as 31-year-old Raheim McClain Murray, while the second victim was identified as 39-year-old Carla Janon Murray.
Authorities have not announced the manner of their deaths or how they might have been known to Propst and Lewis.
“The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as it becomes available,” the sheriff’s office said.
