This The Walking Dead character is rising from the dead.
Emily Kinney, whose character Beth was killed off during The Walking Dead’s fifth season, will return for an episode of the third season of the series’ spinoff, The Walking Dead: Dead City. The actress appeared alongside Lauren Cohan, who plays her onscreen sister Maggie, to announce the news during San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 24. The panel took place two days before Dead City returns on July 26 on AMC and AMC+.
The episode featuring Kinney, 41, will be set in an alternate reality.
“I’m Lauren, and I think you know this person,” Cohan, 44, says in a teaser video AMC released.
“Hi, I’m Emily Kinney,” says the singer and actress. “Really so excited to be working with Lauren again.”
“We’re really glad that Emily wanted to come back and do this,” Cohan says in the video.
Kinney shared that she was pleasantly surprised to be asked to return to The Walking Dead universe.
“I had no idea I’d get a chance to play Beth again,” she says. “I’m so happy to be here.”
“Get those tissues ready, everybody,” Cohan warns fans at the end of the teaser.

The death of Kinney’s character was as much a shock for her as it was for viewers, she told Entertainment Weekly around the time the scene aired.
“I actually have not watched the episode,” she told Entertainment Weekly in 2014. “I haven’t sat down and watched it. I feel it’s sort of out of my hands at a certain point and I’m very proud of the work I’ve done with The Walking Dead. I don’t feel like it would be fun to watch myself. It feels a little painful.”
Beth was shot by former cop Dawn Lerner (Christine Woods) after Beth stabbed her with scissors in protest of her forcing Noah (Tyler James Williams) into captivity in exchange for her freedom.
