Drew Starkey had an emotional reaction to the end of Outer Banks.
The series star, who ends his run as Rafe Cameron in the Netflix series when its fifth and final season arrives later this summer, revealed on the Thursday, July 30 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that he broke down in tears after his last moments on set.
“It was totally bittersweet. We spent seven years on that show and those are my best friends and I felt, the last couple months of filming, I thought I was fine,” Starkey, 32, said. “I thought I was a sociopath. I was like, ‘I feel nothing, I’m ready to get out of here, I don’t care.’ ”
But then, it hit him. “The last shot of my last scene, right when they yelled ‘cut,’ I was just weeping. Like, constantly,” he says.

After an “aww” from the Tonight Show audience, Starkey joked that “it’s not an aww,” with host Jimmy Fallon suggesting it was an “ugly cry.”
“I cried for a solid two hours and crew members kept coming up to me, I was like, ‘I’m good.’ And then someone would walk up and I’d [cry],” Starkey said.
He added, “It was like all these memories flooding back. I started the show when I was 25. I’m 32 now. So it was such a sentimental time.”

Starkey, who currently appears alongside Anya Taylor-Joy in the Apple TV thriller Lucky, made his Outer Banks debut when the series premiered in 2020. He stars alongside Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Jonathan Daviss, Madison Bailey, Carlacia Grant, Rudy Pankow and others.
Season 5, per a synopsis from Netflix, finds the Pogues “at their absolute breaking point following the tragic loss of JJ in Morocco.”
“Stranded far from home and mourning the heart of their crew, they’ve lost the Blue Crown and continue to face a gauntlet of familiar threats. With Chandler Groff still at large, Dalia and the Corsairs closing in, and the Kooks ensuring the Pogues have no home to return to, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope and Cleo must rely on their scrappy instincts—and an uneasy alliance with Rafe—to keep from falling apart for good,” the synopsis continues.
“Their mission is now a desperate race to reclaim their future and finally win the freedom they’ve been chasing since the beginning. It’s the Pogues against the world as they seek to avenge their best friend and bring it on home…one final time.”
