Aaron Rodgers credits his wife Brittani for encouraging him to reunite with his estranged family.

Earlier this year, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, 42, put an end to a yearslong rift with his parents, Darla and Ed Rodgers, and his older brother, Luke Rodgers.

Appearing on a recent episode of the NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, Aaron spoke to host Kyle Brandt about his family’s strained relationship, stating, “There’s been a lot of conversation about it outside of my own conversation for so many years.”

“A big part of it was getting married and having those conversations with my wife that allowed me to kind of open up to the possibility of coming together,” he continued, nodding to Brittani.

Aaron added: “It’s been a couple-year process now, the conversations with them.”

The Rodgers family feud first became public in 2016, when Aaron’s younger brother, Jordan Rodgers, discussed their estrangement on JoJo Fletcher’s season of The Bachelorette, claiming that the football player had distanced himself from them.

“I’ve been very closed off about that part of my life, and I want to keep it that way,” Aaron explained on Good Morning Football. “But there’s been a narrative that’s gone on for too long that I kind of wanted to shut down, and it’s been really beautiful to reconnect with them, all of them.”

On Monday, July 20, Aaron shared a series of photos of himself and his family on Instagram. In addition to reuniting with his parents and brother, he bonded with a child who appeared to be his young niece.

The Rodgers family’s reunion dates back to at least April of this year, however. A photo previously obtained by PEOPLE showed Aaron celebrating his induction into his high school’s athletics hall of fame with his loved ones.

“Aaron was in great spirits at the event,” Wyatt Acker, who photographed the Pleasant Valley High School banquet dinner in Chico, Calif., told PEOPLE.

“It was a huge reunion for everyone that played for PVHS,” he continued. “Aaron was chatting and sitting with his parents. They looked like they were having a great time.”

Looking back at the time spent with his family post-reconciliation, Aaron told Brandt, 47, on Good Morning Football, “I got to spend a long weekend recently with them in Nashville, with my parents, my brother and his sweet wife and their incredible two kids. So I got to be an uncle.”

“It’s really special. A lot of my life has been full-circle, I think the last year, and that was part of it,” added the athlete.

“I’m happy to be reunited, and that part of my life is a really beautiful addition,” Aaron continued. “I’ve got to give my wife a lot of credit for — not that she was pushing me, ‘cause she never was — but just the way that she loves and supports me. Having her by my side during this process has been really special.”

Also emphasizing that the reasons for his family’s estrangement “don’t need to be talked about,” Aaron said that he’s simply “thankful” that their bond has “come all the way back around.”

Aaron first went public with his relationship with Brittani in December 2024. By June 2025, he revealed they had secretly married “a couple months” earlier. (The confirmation came after fans noticed a possible wedding band on his finger at the Kentucky Derby a month prior in May.)

During an interview on The Pat McAfee Show in June 2025, Aaron said he has no plans to reveal Brittani’s identity. “My private life is staying private. I’m with somebody who wants to be private,” he said.
